Missing part in my engine bay

Hey guys, this is actually my first post on this forum and just from looking around everyone seems very helpful.

I was actually getting my oil changed today and a mechanic spotted out and noticed I was missing "cold air sensor" piece and that it's used for sensing temperatures from when cold air comes into the car from the front. He also mentioned that this may be affecting my fuel intake somehow because it is now breathing the hot air from inside the bay, instead of the air that comes into the car, which it should be. I own a 2003 lancer ls and bought it used so I'm trying to figure out if I could have bought it with out that piece in the car from the previous owner.

I never actually noticed this piece missing before, and I just searched up some images of my car's bay, and noticed this piece here.

Here's a pic of how my engine looks right now (Not my car, )

And here's a picture of the piece in the same place

Can anyone tell me what exactly this piece is or what it's used for?

Thanks!

It's a piece of the factory air box. It takes cooler air from outside the engine bay into your intake. Without it, You are taking warmer air from the engine bay into the motor. Not a big problem.

Ok that sounds good. I would want my car to run as it should so can you recommend a place where I can order this piece because a dealer said it will be $80+ labor and I'm hoping I can find it somewhere for cheaper and hopefully install it myself.

It slips in that egg sized opening on the air box and two plastic clips secure it at the front. Check on eBay to see if you can get it cheaper first.

Try a local junk yard. I'm not sure exactly what you would call it...

Thanks for your time helping me look for it, I think if I did get it from a junk yard i'd probably have to get the whole box which I don't need, and it would be a hassle just looking for the small piece from it. I guess i'll be picking it up either from eBay or if I can get a better deal somewhere else. I just want to be sure I'm getting a good part and not over-paying.
