True that. Well, in today's scene, it seems it doesn't take a whole lot to make a potent street performer. Anything beyond a bodykit, rims, and exhaust and intake, and you take yourself beyond 90% of the crowd. I was thinking you were talking about semi-pro events at legal events, and legal tracks. If you're talking about the street... the Lancer could be a viable competition machine after more than your run of the mill work. But, that goes for most cars. As I said, when I discount the Lancer as a true contender in the straight a way race, I'm mainly talking about legal sanctioned events, since illegal street racing really doesn't spark my interest that much any more.

Like I said, everyone has their preferences as far as cars go, and if the NSX is your thing, I hope you scrape together the cash to get it. Serious, no sarcasm, good luck to you.

Yeah, you know how the ES shares it's lug pattern with the Civic and all... it's gonna be a ***** to find aftermarket wheels...

Cool

I love my 2003 Lancer OZ rally. I think it is a much better looking car with the options it has over the other lancer models. I think the performance of the 2.0L is fine as long as you got the car with the 5 speed manual tranny. Eventually I may upgrade some parts in it to get more horsepower, but for a new car of that size I think it performs well. Plus with the trim, wheels, gauges, etc.. that come with the OZ make it much nicer. I also like the fact that the OZ has Yokohama tires vs. those piece o' crap goodyears on the other models.

All of the other lancer models I saw on the dealer I was at had goodyears on them. This may not be true for all dealers?? Maybe it's dealer preference as to how they are ordered??

But that is all that you're car has on mine. So even though the post title was "why did you buy the oz", I couldn't post why I bought the LS? Ya know, I got on this forum to learn some stuff and ask questions if I had them. I'd be better off going to the Rx-7 or Supra forums to talk to people who truely understand cars and actually do have fast cars. Any car can be made fast. And yeah I'm guessing the lancer does have potential. However, you're going to have to build the **** out of it just to get them to run with stock Civics, not to mention anything with a turbo. Just out of curiosity what mods do you have done to your car, or are planning on doing?
umm, i can and have wasted a stock civic, booyah!!!!

more than one, and more than just stock ones. Last civic I raced was a girl with all sorts of vtec stickers on it, she jumped me and as I gained on her I heard one of her muffler brackets break lose and the muffler started vibrating louder than hell, if it made the muffler louder the civic probably thought it was beneficial though.

got oz for the gauges, 15 inch lightweight wheels, stick shift, and yella color. Got that on any other model? K, the es has a stick, but other than that NO!!!

I don't know why people are having such problems with making Civics eat dust. I have yet to lose to one. Out of the five races I've had, the only one I lost was with a Camaro. Three of the others were not even close (except for one against a Turbo Beetle with an auto... that was less than a carlength, but, the fact that the Lancer barely even edged out, or even kept up with a car with 180 crank hp... well, that's respectable, even if it was an auto). Come on folks, the last gen Civic was running low 90s at the wheels as far as HP goes, and it's torque was significantly less. The Lancer runs 103.something hp, and slightly more torque. Makes for a pretty uneven match up.

I'm not arguing the ES versus OZ point any more, but, I think that for those intending to redo the wheels, and perhaps even a body kit, the OZ really doesn't have the massive amount of appeal over the ES that everyone makes it out to. But, that's just this guy's opinion.

i always thought that buying the low model & fixing it up is what i would do.....say if i bought a civic i would get the EX not a SI......not saying i would ever buy one just for the fun of buying parts and putting them on, since i do it all myself im trying to make it a good learning experience. of coarse everyone has their own opinion and dont wanna get their hands dirty so i dont disagree with buying an up model.

i personaly got the OZ package because of the yellow paint, i was not very fond of the wood trim altho dont get me wrong it does look very nice, but it wasnt for me, i did like the white gauges but the oz wasnt the only one that came with white guages.. i know the ground effects kit isnt much but i thought it looked nice, and i was inpressed with the 15" wheels vs the hubcaps. once it is paid off it will be costing me 20k but i think it is worth every penny. i enjoy driving it and everyone loves my car looks/performance/first opionion i think it handles nice and so does everyone else i have let drive it.. so the reason for me choosing the OZ trim was once again because of the yellow paint, brushed metal dash short shift 5 speed ground effects and white guages arnt really inpressive but it looked nice and i have never seen any other car with it.

i test drove an automatic first and it seemed to me it was having to work too damn hard in order to GOO, and was whinning loud, was not inpressed with the auto, went for the manual. (this is my first car with a stick) never drivin one before.. very nice
