old 4g92 sohc engine(automatic transmission) loss of response.

Hi guys, I have an issue with engine response when engaged to D. Before it was stable and seems very snappy taking off from a complete stop. But about half a year ago it lost a bit of that characteristics all of a sudden when I start it up one day. I can't seem to find the cause of it, some times the responsiveness would come back again but lasts shortly and it will be gone again. Could it have anything to do with the transmission because lately it starts to give weird shifting problems?
