Piston Question
Is there any point in getting new forged pistons and rods if your not planning on going turbo or NOS? Do they produce any actual gains by themselves?
if you keep the compression ratio the same then no i don't think there would be any increase in power. you would just be able to have more dentenation to happen without it blowing the motor.
hmm... I'm not too familiar with the US lancer engine, but I do know that RRM makes a forged piston that is 9.5 compression. I'm guessing that's what ambystom01 is referring to. I think 9.5 is way too low for NA...
Also, the rods on the engine are the weak points.
so.... I don't know whether this has been done before, but why not install the RRM forged pistons and the RRM rods, and mill the head down?
That would raise the compression way up (much more power for NA), and you would have the reinforced pistons/rods for the extra power.

i like your idea of milling the head down, that plus pistons and rods would definitly do the trick! and RRM now sells both pistons AND rods. But if your really looking to go high compression, RPW has high compression pistons, so if you get those, upgrade your rods, and possibly stronger head gasket, you can prolly get around 11:1.. which would be sick..
9.5:1 is stock CR. It's decent.
No one on the mirage board that I know has ever have higher CR than stock. I think 9.8:1 is decent too w/o jumping to higher octane all the time.
Higher CR = usually mean higher TQ.
BTW: 11:1 = race gas. Has anyone checked the price on those? It will hurt like filling a box truck.

With high lift cams (like the ones from RPW), higher compression pistons is a must! otherwise, you're not going to see the full benefits of the cams at all. More compression and bigger cams should go hand and hand. This is why the people w/ the bigger cams on this board aren't seeing that much power. I think that with higher compression and cams, they will see more power, peaking around 7000-8000 RPM.
