your catalytic converter is not muffling the sound, the muffler is...

The axle back exhaust is cheap for a reason. Axle back barely do anything for sound quality. The axle doesn't work well because you are not changing the muffler or resonator or anything like that. If you save enough money, you could buy a cat back system that unlike the axle back, which stretches from the muffler down, this will stretch from the catalytic converter down. This system replaces your resonator, muffler, and exhaust tips. Along with all the other piping in between of course. When buying a cat back, make sure it is made for your car. This will insure a proper fit. It's good that you bring up the question and never be afraid to ask anything. That's what forums are for! Good luck to you!
