Question Brake pads

Hey all.

I just came from the dealer after getting my 45000 mile service and they have advised me that I need to have my rotors resurfaced and some new front brake pads.

Anyone out there had this done recently? I want to know what place e.g. Goodyear etc how much it cost you and what type of brake pads did they install? I hear there are problems with squeaky pads and I don't want that on my car.

thanks

I got the slotted roters and stock brake pads....I thought I was the only one who had squeeky brakes. Getting the rotors cut shouldnt be that expensive but not many places do it anymore. your better off getting new rotors. Stock ones cost $60 a peice in NY. So i just decided to get the slotted rotors for the extra $70. From what I feel they work good but i should have gotten the good pads as well from rrm (less squeeking). Your rotors should be fine for a while until you get new ones.

ive gotten my rotors resurfaced once and and on my second set of pads. Either get them resurfaced and go with carbon kevlar pads from RRM or get yourself some drilled/slotted rotors and get a pair of stock pads...just dont buy from the dealership, everything is very easy to instal...our brakes are a breeze compared to the american cars ive worked on, calipers just held in place by two bolts. You cant use RRM's carbon kevlars on drilled/slotted, but whatever you decide, stay away from the dealership.

haha lucky that happened to me at 25k but i drive through lot of traffic. i havent had my rotors resurfaced yet...they just give it a little mushy feeling. changed the brakes though. just go to a parts store and get some new front brake pads. auto zone was out when i went so i think i went to napa and advanced auto said they didnt even carry them yet. i bought the ones with the life time warranty for under 40 bucks. once you change the pads you should be ok for a while on the rotors. the dealership told me they would change the brakes and resurface the rotors for like $240 bucks or something which is way to much... brakes are really easy to change all you need is a jack and a c-clamp

Most auto service places can resurface your rotors, and as for quiet pads, don't get the raybestos or life-time pads. The Porterfields are also a little noisy (but they stop on a dime!), so maybe try the Axxis pads from RRM. If you decide to get new rotors as well, do it yourself. If you can remove a wheel, you can change your pads and rotors.

yeah the dealership quoted me about the same 250 or somethin like that, wich is ridiculous...i can go get top notch drilled/slotted rotors and good quality pads for a lot less than that.

I just got the Brembo slooted and drilled rotors. Both cost me like 100 bucks. Pads -- well not everyone sells them. I got a set of 1 years from pepboys for like 35 bucks, but even with the new rotors they heat up pretty quick.

I had 37K highway miles.

that's why my brakes lasted so long.

i heard good things about the Axxis pads from WRX guys. i think ill get them next time. For now im gonna have to deal with my mushy brakes. O well, it still stops well.

as far as i know, Brembo only makes rotors for the lancer. I think www.tirerack.com has some. check it out.
