I'm planning on getting some new tires, probably BF Goodrich Traction T/As, and i'm still on the stock steel rims. The stock tires are 185/65 but i was wondering if 195/60s or 205/60s will work without any rubbing or speedometer problems. Figured if i'm gonna buy new tires i might as well get some wider ones for better handling.

It shows the difference in size and whether or not the speedo will be off. For example, my 205/50/15s are off 5% from the stock 190/60/15s.

Best bet is to use the link Blacksheep gave you, determine what size you would like the most, then find some tires that size and see what recommended rim widths they list. For a 5.5" rim width, I wouldn't go any more than 205. 205/60/14 or 195/60/14 should work well. The first will be a tad larger diameter than stock and reaching the limit on width, and the second will be a little smaller diameter than stock.

 

If you go to tirerack.com and look at the specs for a particular type and size of tire, it will give you the measured(nominal), minimum, and maximum width of rim it will fit on.

 

i went with the Yokohoma ES100's in 205/55/15 for the stock rims on my car

Once my stock tires get some more miles on them i'm going to go with the 205/60/14's
