Automatic Lancer OZ

Hi all,

I would like to know if anyway got an Automatic OZ Lancer.
im from canada, and im planning to buy an OZ lancer when
available in few month. but i do not know if i should take it
manual or automatic. (Shiftronic not available, else the decision
would not be hard), im a bit confused because i drive a lot in cities. and im also planning to mod it. (body kit, 17inch rims etc.)
so i want to know if some people got moddled automatic one!

Thanks

I test drove the auto, and it seemed like there was a large difference in how quick it was compared to the MT.

i agree . . . i have an automatic with mods and my car runs well. however, i'd say that if you like the feeling of more control over the car . . . then get a manual.

Just some additional thoughts:
  • AT means slightly higher curb weight
  • AT wastes a bit more drivetrain energy vs MT unless torque converter is locked
  • AT sometimes more of a pain for maintenence when time to change fluid (unless done by dlr)
  • MT in stop and go traffic can get annoying after a while
  • MT wins in mechanical simplicity vs AT
  • MT clutch life can vary depending on driver technique (or lack of)

MY auto is pretty cool. I drove it quick like when i first got it and it is used to shifting they way i want it too, and I can honestly say that my car shifts from 2nd to 3rd gear at 64mph where the stick has to shift at 59mph. also if you plan to add turbo later keep in mind that a lancer with an auto transmission spools up the turbo faster than the manual tranny

I must drive a little bit harder, I can get my MT to about 61 in 2nd. IMO a five speed is the way to go. Sure it's a ***** to have to keep shifting in stop and go traffic, but I can get better gas mileage with a 5 speed. Also, if you plan to do any kind of drag/street racing, the one thing I learned, I had a hell of a time beating equal vehicles with a MT when I was using a automatic.

I got an auto because I do alot of city driving as well, and now I wish I had a manual. The lancer 5 speed is very "clean". In the most recent issue of Car and Driver the Lancer's mt was rated as one of the cars high points. Plus if you are going to mod your car I would definately recommend the 5 speed. It's alot more excitement and alot less exspensive. MT and racing go hand in hand.
