The excess fees from importing come from import taxation, especially for cars from Japan and are all part of trade wars between the countries. That's the reason the Japanese companies produce in the US for example...

mitsu rep at motortrend car show

I asked the mitsu rep if he had any evo info and he said that he knew for a fact that they will be here this time next year. Made me pretty happy! BTW in the motortrend picture if you look really hard you can see that there IS a front mount intercooler still intact

Motor Trend also says that they drove the car in Japan so it is most likely the Japanese domestic model, with front mounted intercooler.

The Supra RZ never came over to the U.S. I assume that you are compairing the Supra Twin Turbo to the supra RZ. But you are still mistaken in your statement. The US-spec Twin Turbo is more powerful then the J-spec RZ. I will assume that the rest of your facts are equally factual.

On paper...maybe so.
The Supra RZ, along with the WRX, the Evo, and the Skyline, all rate higher on the dyno then they say on the paper.
Sorry my mistake in calling the Supra TT an RZ. Its the same engine, the same chassis, the same everything, i dont think its THAT critical, its all a JZA80, your really reaching...
So if i refered to an IS200 as an Altezza id be wrong to? Come on...
If you look at the numbers on a dyno, and not on paper, the JDM Supra has equal HP to the USDM Supra, and lower torque then the USDM. Mostly do to the exaust system design, and the fact the JDM is less restrictive becuase of increased US emisions that where put on the USDM version. Making the turbos spool up faster, and giving lower RPM torque. Simple.

I was into Honda and Toyota long before i was into Mitsubishi and Subaru.

Touché my foot.

Nope it is not the same, with only changes on paper as you say. The US-spec uses larger (and better) turbos. Furthermore the emisions changes you are talking about never happened. If you remember, late in the supra mkiv life, the Twin Turbo wasn't avalible in many states because it didn't meet the emisions requirments, of thoes states. Toyoda wouldn't handicap the car, like every other company does.

I think they're saying that Mitsubishi will bring bringing one over. I guess we'll just have to hope to get the real deal and not some watered down version.

another step forward in the rumor mill

This is a good sign. Motor Trend is maybe the biggest car magazine in the U.S. and they're saying it looks like the Evo is coming. That's a big step up from Sports Compact Car saying it might come over. Also, Motor Trend says it'll probably be the full-blown version and it's perhaps a year away.

Obviously nothing's definite until Mitsu USA announces it, but this is a ratcheting up of the rumors for sure.

BUCK-O: Read the quote from the article:

"Other powerful transplants are in the works, as Infiniti will soon market the Nissan Skyline sedan as the G35, and Nissan is considering bringing the full-bore Skyline GT-R coupe over to position above the 350Z."

It clearly is talking about two different Skylines and two different car divisions. INFINITI will bring over the standard Skyline, and NISSAN might bring over the GT-R. Motor Trend wasn't confused.
