This may sound stupid but its just an idea. If u were to relocate your battery couldnt u buy a SRI and mount it somwhere(lets say by the fog light) and then run a tubing from the SRI to where the SRI should be hooked up to? Just a though

Hypothetically speaking, I believe the answer would be yes, however, the number of bends in the pipe you'd need to get from the fog-light to the SRI might negate the purpose, although you'd probably have little issue with hydro-lock then...

I didn't really understand that, but I think I know what you mean. But the problem with an auto is that even without the battery, theres no hole to run a tube any lower under there.

if you removed the headlight you'd be fine. but on an auto there is not enough room, even without the battery.

yeah, its really not that important in choosing between short ram or cold air. The short ram gives you better response/torque, and you don't have to worry about water. Plus it super easy to install and mess with

you could still relocate the battery, and if you ever race, just remove the headlight. that will let in a tonne of air straight to your SRI

This is what I did with my AUTO.

The battery was moved to the back for the system.

So it left me with the big hole in the engine bay. You can get Cold Air IF you put the filter right behind the headlight.

That means no cutting, or taking headlight out. If you put your hand behind it, you will feel cold air. Even with the engine on, I felt no heat. And only about 2 bends, instead of 4-6 with other Cold airs haha.

I even thought about putting it under the drivers fender, but I would have to cut part of the frame. lol I stopped right there.

SO it is possible, and maybe even cheaper than a $200+ CAI. Just go to Autozone, or get you a custom pipe, and a good K&N filter. Or just a regular Autozone filter.

As for gains, I don't know. Hope this helps.
