Broken Window Help
Broken Window Help
Ok, Tuesday night some kids broke into my lancer. They broke out the standalone glass on the driver side back window. the weather strip is fine. Only puncheed out the glass. If anyone know how to replace step by step instructions please post. i like DIY's. i can get the glass easily. i rather try to fix it myself then get jipped at a shop. ive included a picture for those that dont know which peice im talking about. thanks in advance.
SInce thats a small window, I would try the dealership and see how much they charge. Believe or not, they do have cheap stuff :-)
If not, try to get the glass fro a glass company. Measure the other side, or find the correct measurements online. Hopefully someone on here can help out with that.
As for DIY, I'll be right behind you. I want to see how to put that window in lol.

I'd say you'll end up having to take off the door panel, then remove some sort of weather stripping from the bottom of that section of window, then slide it downwards and out. But, honestly.. that's just a guess. I haven't done any glass work... but from looking at it, it seems that the door panel will definitely have to come off at least, so you could start there and you might figure it out for yourself pretty quick by just looking at it.
EDIT: This is the closest information I could find for you within a short period of time... it refers to a Kia Rio but has various methods for removing/reinstalling the windows: http://www.autoglassmagazine.net/articles.php?id=265

You have to remove the door panel, unbolt the movable window glass from the sliding mechanism that opens/closes it and remove the movable window glass. Then unbolt the rear track (3 bolts) and remove it. Then the stationary glass should come right out, with its weatherstripping.
Install is reverse of removal.
