well the wheel drive doesn't really matter with side exhaust except that in a rear wheel drive, there's less chance to put holes in your muffler if you spin out a lot.

Well side exhausts were used on hot rods and such to heat up the rear tires and thus improve traction.

This whole thread is lame. The first thing you need to do first before doing this type of exhaust set-up is to get a turbo.

or he could just do it with a stock motor. It will have to be mainly for looks, or he could just use stock size piping and still have some back pressure.

If it were an Evo, and you were doing the GT thing, where the tip comes out the side skirt, Id say thats cool.
However since its not an Evo, do this instead.

i say go for it. It will def set you apart. Just make sure to do it cleanly. If its halfassed everyone will assume its riced. Ive seen an XB with side exhaust that was molded into the skirt and it was actually very respectable.

I guess I'm just crazy, and I don't really see the point in doing this on a 4 door, FWD car.

because you are thinking of it in terms of perfomance and functionality. All he is doing is putting a different exhaust on a different spot. Its ok to move away from the norm every now and then, especially on something as small as an exhaust setup. Same reason people put carbon fiber covers over their side light things. It does nothing but look different.
