Thumbs up Lancer 06 tach install

I finally figured out how to install the tachometer on the 06 lancer DE/ES.
And i know there are a few people that are still triying to figure it out since there are no diagrams out yet , well here is how to install a small 2" tach.
Attachment 103232

First disconect the batery's negative terminal to insure no short circuits or CEL's
then go ahead and remove your glovebox ,then remove the lid covering the ECU.
you will find that the 06 ECU is way diferent from 04-05. It should look like this.
Attachment 103234
notice it has 3 plugs instead of 4 yellow ones, we're looking for the center one , the ORANGE C-58 plug.
The RPM signal pin will be the #43 thats the third pin. note (second wire ,brown/green) now just tap the green wire from you tachometer to that wire. The Red wire to the positive wire of the radio or cigarette lighter and the black one to the negative wire of eighter one or chassis ground. the white one is for DIN light you can conect it to the possitive wire or to the light switch.
Note be Sure to turn the knob on the back of you tachometer to be set to 4cil
Attachment 103231
after you set it is ready to go just run the wiring behind the radio and take it out trough between the cluster and the steering column.
Attachment 103230

then to asure a clean look mask all the wires with black electrical tape really tigh and run it between the steering column and the cluster cover and vualah
Attachment 103241
for an even cleaner look you can put the tach on a steering wheel gauge pod, is the same that evo's use. Good Luck!

the best thing is that it looks alot like the cluster gauges almost stock look, from an outside point of view it does look like a boost gauge. but soon there will be a boost gauge in that very same spot.

the DE model didn't. but look at it this way..
it cost 2k less than the ES and the things that separate them are the rear antena that the DE has it on the top of the driver's side window, the center console without a armrest, the painted doorhandles and mirrors. thats it
with a lot less I can make it an ES
. oh and the tachless cluster.

I heard that aftermarket Tachs have problems working on Mitsubishis for some reason, and that they usually only register Half the actual RPM.
I was told I'd need a Tach-Driver to make it work correctly?
Can your method work with an AutoMeter Auto-Gauge Tach?
Honestly right now, mines there for sh*ts & giggles, cus I still havent bought a tach-driver..

Any help would be great, cus Id rather not spend money if you can tell me how to make it work..

Thanx!

thats weird, when I first installed the tach i conected it to the wrong wire , it did gave out a strange signal and rpms didnt go up. but, then I conected it to the correct wire and it works perfectly with any tachometer only if the tachometer is set to [ 4 ] cilinders. that could be your problem with the rpm reading.

I got a better deal now and found an 06 RALLIART cluster with only 8k miles from a guy who totaled his car, IT's plug n play everything works just fine.

Hey, nice work. If you want a more factory look, I did the same on my late 2002 Lancer but using the factory cluster with tach. Here's where you can find out how I did it: www.cardomain.com/ride/2126115/5. Hope this helps.
