Antenna swapping info

In case anyone is thinking about doing it, just some details.

It's a pretty darn close fit. I'm thinking of buying the 2" Perrin antenna since 1) I rarely use my radio and 2) the reception sucks with the huge antenna, why not try a smaller one?

2" Perrin on the 2008 [UPDATED]

2002-2006 generation antenna on antenna mast for 2008 (with S&S, if it matters). Bad cameraphone pic, but you get the idea.

Perrin 2" antenna vs. 2002-2006 Lancer/Evo antenna for length comparison.

Right here.

Just ordered my 2" antenna tonight. Shipping is a penny, which is really cool.

When you get it, let me know what the reception is like, compared to the normal antenna. I use Sirius a lot, so if you decided to start your subscription, I'd be interested in knowing if this makes the reception a lot worse.

Correct me if Im wrong, but isnt the sirius antenna the large black base? The other one is just for am/fm....From my experience with my other cars and sirius radios, the antenna was just a small black box, nothing like any type of radio antenna...

I have no idea if it is or not. From what I've heard, they are both the same, or in the same area, so I'm not sure if it's just the base or integrated into the actual antenna too.

Will do. Radio reception is usually ****ty (I live in the sticks), but I can check the free weather station on the Sirius (maybe I'm crazy, but even with no subscription, the weather channel works free; unless my memory is completely off).

And it's on...

Radio reception is unchanged. Again, I don't get great reception to begin with, but tested it out as I drove towards Cleveland; sounded fine. I didn't notice any problems at all. Sirius sounded fine as well.

Yeah, it's about the size of a quarter.

And it's a bit shorter than the stock antenna.

Installed.

Yes. Takes under a minute.

That's why I didn't bother with a How To thread.

Nice. I may have to pick one up. I hope it doesn't change much for me either, because I actually like about 15 minutes outside of Cleveland.

And yes, the weather channel is free. 184 (or something close) right?

Much better look with the shorter antenna, im going to be ordering one shortly I don't use the radio so that doesn't matter to me if the reception gets worse

I don't know much about all this so you might have to bear with me... I definitely think the stock antenna looks goofy being so long. I like the 2" one like blacksheep got, but I'm thinking I'd like the look of a fin antenna like on the high-end luxos more. As far as putting one on, does the make of the car really matter? Cuz I'm thinking you could just find one and slap it on?
