Dvd While Driving
Dvd While Driving
Hey guys first of all hello and I must say I am pretty enthused about being an 08 Lancer GTS owner! Now I have read all the other threads on this but for some reason I am lost. On the DVD bypass it saids to splice the green/red wire to an on/off switch (which I did with no problems). I did this but after a few seconds to maybe a minute or two of driving the safety override kicks back on. I can toggle the switch on/off/on again but again in a few seconds to maybe a minute or two the safety override kicks on again. Am I missing something? I know the green/red wire is the VSS but the GPS antenna is also kicking that safety in. I disconnected both and the DVD while driving worked but now no NAVI! Do I have to disconnect the GPS antenna as well for this to work? I did'nt read that in any of the other threads and don't want to sacrifice one for the other. What else can I do? Can you splice an on/off for the GPS antenna? Maybe take out the fuse for the GPS antenna, is there one? PLease guys I have my dash ripped apart and I would like to get it back together ASAP. Thanks in advance for all your help!
Dunno dude, I haven't tried this yet but the original post said the override kicked in for him too! I was concerned with the antenna kicking it in as well. I will try the override today, and see what's goin on... I'm not sure what the wiring is for the antenna, but I'm not sure how excited I would be to splice that as well!!
Ok, just did some searching... The guys on another mits forum are saying that it will kick back in if you have the gps antenna still connected. If the VSS (Green w/ Red Stripe) is disconnected, and the antenna, then you can watch dvds at any speed. BUT, speed calculations, navi, and mileage calculations are all lost! Like I said, I'm going to check into splicing a switch for the antenna as well, BUT antenna signals are nothing to mess with!!!
well like I said it's not great to have only one or the other. (I mean either play DVDs or have GPS) The original post where the guy said he did it said nothing about disconnecting the GPS antenna and he even went o say that he was able to swith back and forth telling me that his GPS NAVI would still work with this on/off switch. Thanks for the input and I hope we can get an answer quickly!
I believe it will still work once you switch it back, its just going to take a moment of two for the satellites to locate your position. There's no way to switch back and forth right away without delay. I'm working on it right now.
No my thing was that even with the VSS (green/red wire) cut and completely not hooked up the safety override still kicked on. Unless im doing something wrong I don't know what to do! Please let me know if you figure something out. Also I tried two diffrent switches. I tried an on/off rocker switch and a push button on/off switch. Let me nkow what you fing BRADLEYJ
On other forums, the only way for people to accomplish dvd playback while driving was to disconnect the VSS wire (or switch it) AND disconnect the GPS connector. I just got done tearin my dash apart, and I'm confident in running a switch for the VSS wire, but NOT the GPS antenna wire. That is why your safety override is still kicking in. The vehicle uses a combination of VSS and GPS locating to tell if the car is moving for the override. SO, while you may have the VSS disconnected, once the car locks into the satellites, it knows it's moving, and the Lancer goes, "Oh hell no!!!" and kicks the safety in. I don't see any good way to cut the antenna wire and switch it, and furthermore don't even think it's a good idea!!! The wire is shielded and is very vital to the GPS functioning correctly. Therefore, I am not going to move forward with the hack in this sort of manner.
