Shift Knob

Hey i have a 2008 Lancer with CVT, im looking to swap out the origional shift knob with an aftermarket one. Does anyone know how to remove the stock shift knob? Also if possible does anyone know howto remove the black trim around the silver shift indicator plate?

The CVT knob has to be pulled off with gorilla-like strength...or just rotozip it off You'd have to pop off the center console to get at that trim.

Um, you know you can't put on another knob, right? The pole isn't threaded. The stock CVT knob just has a little clip that holds it in place.

Let me know what you come up with. I'd love an aftermarket knob on mine...

black, i found a nice tutorial on another forum (ProjectLancer) that was alot of help in taking the knob off. It is the following. (The Green Text is What I Added Due to Personal Experiance on taking the knob off)

The silver collar on the bottom of the shift knob is just clipped on, but very well. You pull straight dwn using a lil elbow grease (I Advise you to twist it while pulling down, it tends to slide off alot easier)

There is a metal retainer sleeve that the Knob slide over and locks into place. There will b 2 tabs that you will need to depress in order to slide knob up.
(They are inside two little plastic squares)

once you have the knob off, you will c how the metal sleeve locks into place. you can use pliers to turn the sleeve 90 degrees and pull up.

Interesting. Thanks.

What's funny is that the instructions for knob removal are "Pull up." Obviously, what you showed also includes knob disassembly, which is good to know about.

How did you mount the shift knob? Did you somehow transplant the parts from the stocker on to that aftermarket knob? Or did you get creative?

Um, dude? Most shift knobs are threaded. Only the cheapo universal knobs use Allen screws. I want to use a real, threaded knob.

Wanna send me your stock parts to test on?
