Shift Knob

Hey i have a 2008 Lancer with CVT, im looking to swap out the origional shift knob with an aftermarket one. Does anyone know how to remove the stock shift knob? Also if possible does anyone know howto remove the black trim around the silver shift indicator plate?

The CVT knob has to be pulled off with gorilla-like strength...or just rotozip it off You'd have to pop off the center console to get at that trim.

alright, thanks dude, i kinda figured that about the trim, just didnt wanna break anything. haha

Um, you know you can't put on another knob, right? The pole isn't threaded. The stock CVT knob just has a little clip that holds it in place.

yeah, i figured that... most auto/cvt cars dont have threaded poles. thats where the custom fab work comes in

black, i found a nice tutorial on another forum (ProjectLancer) that was alot of help in taking the knob off. It is the following. (The Green Text is What I Added Due to Personal Experiance on taking the knob off)





The silver collar on the bottom of the shift knob is just clipped on, but very well. You pull straight dwn using a lil elbow grease (I Advise you to twist it while pulling down, it tends to slide off alot easier)





There is a metal retainer sleeve that the Knob slide over and locks into place. There will b 2 tabs that you will need to depress in order to slide knob up.
(They are inside two little plastic squares)





once you have the knob off, you will c how the metal sleeve locks into place. you can use pliers to turn the sleeve 90 degrees and pull up.

Now im actually going to start on taking apart my console, trying to figure out how to get the shift pattern out so that i can place a shift boot under the console to hole it in place.

Interesting. Thanks.

What's funny is that the instructions for knob removal are "Pull up." Obviously, what you showed also includes knob disassembly, which is good to know about.

looks good, but im curious. whats the white cable in the pic? is it a car charger for an ipod or cell phone?

How did you mount the shift knob? Did you somehow transplant the parts from the stocker on to that aftermarket knob? Or did you get creative?

oh that white coard is just a temp. NEON Light.... using 12v lights for placement... then other ones when i know where i want them. and fully intergrate them into my light switch. and any manual knob should work. allen screws...

in the lancer how to thread, can you do a how to on how to do all of this! i was thinking about doin this because i hate the look of a automatic shifter and like where you got the parts and etc

Um, dude? Most shift knobs are threaded. Only the cheapo universal knobs use Allen screws. I want to use a real, threaded knob.
