Use the trigger on the door. just take it off and connect it to the switch side. Probubly take you 5 min to do. I would reccomend LED strips got a set of 4 15" with 7 diffrent colors for like $40 it has a controller with 7 diffrent color settings.
hooking that into the dome light fuse won't make that light go on when the door opens. The dome light fuse is an always running current. All it does is supply constant power to your dome light. For example with your car on or off you can still turn your dome light on. I have my constant(yellow) connected to my dome light fuse and my system doesn't turn on every time I open my door. Lol... Like the above poster said you will need to find a trigger wire.. Hope this helps out a little bit
i have installed neons under my dash and my seats in my 99 civic.......all i did was remove the B pillar moulding and fished a wire into the dome.....i then soldered the wires to the terminals that hook up to your dome light bulb.....on the other end you install your neons or leds...............bam you have lights under your dash that light up wen you open your doors or are on constant wen u flick the little switch on your dome light.......i reccomend replacing the dome light with a blue LED because it will look yellow and ugly against the color of your leds
total install including the led mounting....( which took a while to figure out were to mount to).........took like an hour i guess
good luck enjoy let me know what you guys think

I would be cautious about choosing blue as the led color, it's illegal in many states to have blue or red lights on/in cars on public roads. Have you thought about black lights? Just be cautious about the colors. Good luck & post pics.
The door switch most likely completes a ground for the circuit, turning on the light when open. To disable that you would have to re wire any door switches to you lights, and make sure the lights don't pull more amps than specified by your original bulbs. As for still having the lights in the roof when you want...that gets a bit more complicated. I will try to look at the schematic later...give me a few days. and after you do it show me pics and let me know what you used.

kidneythief has a good point...kind of. i know someone that got stopped for a dash mounted alarm LED that was blue. then again, blacklight bulbs are also blue when you look at them!
First, the red light in the center console is an LED, I am not sure of exactly how to change it or what style of light it is. Will have to dig deeper, because I want to replace it.
On adding lights, well the interior dome lamps are tied into and ecu. Its the etacs-ecu. Dont ask me what it stands for, but its more or less like a big complicated relay for our other 13 ECU's.
it controls door locks, lights, wipers, fuel pump, washers. yeah... and much more.
Anyways i do not recommend doing this yourself. if you did find the wire (red and yellow) coming from the etacs-ecu from connector c-316 from pins 5 and 6. Yellow is 5 and red is 6. Then you might be able to tap into that. But who knows it might throw a code. I don't know.
So unless you want to wire it up with your own remote switch fused. then its gonna get really messy
Hope this helps. Cheers
