How good is the Lancer's cabin sound insulation compared to its class?

I haven't sat in a civic/corolla/rabbit at high speeds before so I can't compare the lancer to its rivals, but is it me or the lancer doesn't have good sound insulation?

Since it's a 5spd when you cruise at 140kmh it's at freaking 4k rpm!!! The "wind noise" that I hear inside the cabin gets pretty loud and I have to crank the music volume to like 24-26 to hear my music (normal driving I set it at 16-20)

The thought of adding an intake/exhaust will make it even louder is shattering my hopes to even boost my lancer's performance slightly .

So for the people who have the intake/exhaust, or both, what do you guys think of the noise (or to some, music ) inside the cabin? And is there any product out there to dramatically reduce cabin noise?

p.s I read that the HKS axle-back exhaust is a little bit louder than stock and is comfortable during long highway trips, is there any testimonials to back this up?

I have a stock exhaust and I think that the sound insulation is ok. Seems like this car needs a sixth gear but the sound at 4k rpm doesn't bother me , only if I accelerate in 5th gear at 3-4k rpm I will hear a drone. Compared to an 05 mazda 3 I would say that the lancer has a better insulation, other than that I don't know.

It's kilometers per hour, about 87.5 mph.
Still I haven't found a road where I can cruise (legally) at that speed.

^^ i am canadian, I know what km/h is.

The fastest speed limit that I know of is 110 in Canada, that is why I mentioned it

as for me, I think my camry was a little bit better, but all my others cars were much worse so for me a 9/10 isn't bad

well, for it's class it's not really better nor worst then other's of it's class.
I don't cruise at 4000rpm but with sunroff closed it's ok.
If you wanted to had good insulation you had better go with volvo's bmw's they are fantastic, even 10yo models. But not really same class.
Also for the exhaust/intake, unless you are straight pipe (won't even be able to talk in your car) or go with a 'Civic' 4inch monster exhaust that sounds like an F1 with 100hp, you should be fine. Just go get one that is not that loud at your particular 4000rpm.
But hey, I don't understand why they do so short geared cars these days :s

Haha, the speed limit is 100kmh but I cruise at 140kmh, it's the highway I take to go to my university (401 west) and once you are 100km away from Toronto there are no street lights on the highway and the cars usually cruise at 140-160kmh, so basically I'm not trying to speed but I am just keeping up with traffic .. even the police drive at 130-140kmh.

As for picking an exhaust, I'm thinking of getting the HKS exhaust but I don't know the price and I don't know if it'll make the car really loud at 3.5k+ rpm, I want the slight performance gain (3whp?) and a better mileage but I don't want to scream in the carbecause I do 75% of my driving on highway.

Speaking of this issue, for those who are Canadian-lancer owners, I distinctively remember my dealership and the broshure said that the car has "speed compensated volume and equalization" but it's been 8 months since I have the car and I don't know how to get it to work.

I'm canadian (Quebec) and the volume don't go up when I accelerate compared to the mazda3 of my friend.
And honestly, having the radio trash my ears everytime I push the pedal a bit isn't what I like, engine sound's really better

I don't know about comparing it to it's class, but compared to an Accord, SAAB 92x (Saabaru ... SAAB badged WRX wagon), and a VW Jetta, I'd say my Lancer is about the same at all speeds. The 92x is quite a bit louder, but that guy has a not so quiet muffler on his car. Compared to a Pontiac Sunfire and Pontiac Vibe, my Lancer is quieter.
