Adding Sound Insulation on Evo X

I know the general idea is to reduce my hp to weight ratio and that most of the younger drivers want their car as loud as humanly possible, but I'm actually considering adding sound insulation under the Evo's floor carpet in order to reduce the road & tire noise in the cabin. I can't imagine this adds more than 5 lbs to the car, but I'm assuming it would improve my daily commute 10 fold.

Has any done this on the X or any other Evo model? Thoughts on the improvement? Brands of insulation that you recommend or just use whatever i can find at the hardware store?

Thanks!

A roll of sounde deadening matt which is around 50 ft^2 is around 15 pounds. With 50 ft^2 you can do the trunk and probably some under the cab(maybe half). I will suggest though to try FatMat. You can get 100 ft^2 for around 130 shipped where dynamat is close to 2 or 3 times as expensive!

http://www.fatmat.com/bulk/fatmat/100.html

I've also heard of a company that is supposed to be pretty good called eDead that sells sound deadening fairly cheap.

Just a suggestion

deff look into those as deadeners. I mentioned dynamat as a general known product but a genaric brand is cheaper (much cheaper) and gets the same results. shop around car audio shops and websites. I have done this to my truck with a genaric brand. I removed the seats carpet and trim (console) and cover the floorboards under the seats, under the center console the firewall, the doors and the rear of the cab below the window. this made a tremendus differance. hope that helps.

I would recommend taking a look at http://www.b-quiet.com

look at their "brown bread" product. I've used it before with wonderful results.

From my S2000 days, several people had good results with dynamat.

Any of the weight adding things like dynamat or the paint on things like eDead are going to add density to the places you put them. This will help change the vibrations (since the denser metal will now resonate at a new frequency). This may or may not help.

For road noise, I recommend coating your doors in eDead or some other paint on sounddeadener and using a carpet padding under the carpet -- since it will actually absorb the sound rather than deaden the metal. You can get it cheap at Lowes or Home Depot. The only issue is carpet fitment. You definitely don't want to interfere with the drivers pedals so keep that in mind.

Our doors are very light and resonate quite a bit. Deadening the doors would make the stereo sound a bit better too.

If anyone is in the Dallas area wants some eDead, I've got an extra gallon that I'm not going to use and you can have. I eDeaded my tC (vs. Dynamat-alike which I did in my Ranger) and was pleased with the results -- but tape off around the door skins so you don't have any showing once you put the doors back together!.

I was thinking about doing the same thing with my X. It's my daily driver and the road noise coming from the floor is pretty loud. I was going to use a foam type insulator under the carpet. My roommate bought some and we're about to do his speed6, so if it works well for him I'll get the same stuff.

The X supposedly has about 60 lbs more sound deadening than the IX. Wonder if that's true at all.
