Shifting

im still breaking my car in so im not putting this to use yet, and I'm semi new to a manual transmission so i'd like to know some advice on shifting. i can do the everyday drive w/e no problem, but say i want to see what she can do from a dead stop, whens a good time to shift? 6k rpms? basically what speeds / rpms are ideal for i.e. running the 1/4

Well first don't try anything crazy before finishing the break in period.
After that you can shift at redline, don't try to go higher because the ECU cuts the fuel at redline and it doesn't allow you to go a little bit higher.

When your car is FINISHED breaking in.

For your 1/4 mile, it's a simple word : Redline.
You shift at 6500rpm. (we got little power :S )
Launch.. well, about 3000 like M@verik told you. unless you get better ruber.

Powershifting will damage the transmission.
It's better not to try that on a brand new car. Unless you don't care

do not powershift, it is plain stupid, and honestly not faster unless your a slow shifter, learn to heal toe if you can, also shift around 3 everyday for good gas, around 6300 to 6400 and no lift shifts are good for racing

Since we're talking about shifting, I tried to practice a little heel and toe but I felt that there's a huge gap between the brake pedal and the gas pedal. Do I need some aluminum aftermarket pedals or what? Can you heel and toe with the current pedal setup.
maybe i need some wider shoes

haha ive tried doin that a while back and ya there is a huge gap. but thinking about it, heel toeing it in an FD is not really gonna gain you much. since you dont want to be braking while turning its really a hinderence. In a RD its a good thing cuz you can still maintain a power slide. I think the best solution to get around a corner faster is to put it in a low gear and just keep ur right foot on the gas, then use some left foot braking to even yourself out. and theres always the hand brake if u want to go big

No no, you can heel and toe before entering a turn. So before you enter the turn you want to brake and also put it in a lower gear so your RPM will be high and you can exit the turn faster. of course you can drag the clutch also but that's not too proffessional

ahh ok, i was thinking in the turn. I have seen some videos of people doing it in the turn which makes sense to me for RD. Neways, its not something I'm gonna be doin on an everyday basis lol
