Bike Racks?

Does anyone with a 08/09 have a bike rack installed? If so what did you do?

Trailer hitch? Roof rack? Trunk strap down thingy?

Please help

I've used one of the trunk strap down ones.

Good question. I was wondering the same thing, while wandering through Walmart the other day.

I was concerned that the trunk mount ones wouldn't clear the spoiler....

I don't remember exactly how mine went on or what brand it was, but it went on no problem. I'm pretty sure that the straps went underneath the spoiler and clipped to the back of the trunk by the glass, then a set went to the sides of the front, and another to the bottom by the bumper.

Were there any paint scratches or rubbing? How secure was it did? Do you recall the brand or approximate cost?

Thanks for the reply!

Nah, no paint chips/scratches. I think the hooks might have been covered in rubber or plastic. The one I had was secure, although I had to do some fancy tie jobs to get the front wheel secure so it wouldn't crash into the trunk (probably only had to do that because I didn't really know how to use it). I'm sorry I don't know which kind it was or how much it cost. I borrowed it from my old man and he's on vacation with the Mrs. right now. Come to think of it, he may have even got it as gift. I wouldn't worry too much about a rack ruining your car though, and I would think the trunk ones are the cheapest variation. They wouldn't sell many if they damaged your car every time you took it out. Best thing to do is check out the interweb or, even better, ask the salesperson where you're shopping for some help/recommendations. Especially if your in a bike shop or outdoor-sports store. It's what they're there for and in many cases they have people working in that department specifically for the expertise and experience.

Trailer Hitch that fits our 2008 lancers I am just unsure of how I feel about having a receiver hitch on the back of my lancer.

Any thoughts or opinions?

Personally I don't like the way hitches look on any sedan. A friend of mine had a older style Mustang with a hitch on it for his jet ski and it looked awkward.

But that's my opinion, to each his own...

I aint a fan either but there are no roof racks available as of yet and the trunk mounted ones will probably have issues with my spoiler not sure what other options I have.

Brand: Saris Guardian Grabber
$50 from Dick's
2 bikes
6 straps
plastic coated hooks
sturdy enough
clears everything just fine (no spoiler though on ES)
does not sit on the bumper, can open/close trunk w/ no problems
did 70 mph w/ no problems
happy w/ it

Sorry for the angle of the picture, it's the only one I have right now
