Should I do it?

Well, I just found out today that GM is offering more rebates(~3k$ total) on cobalts to finish selling out the 08's. I also have a family member that works at GM that can get me the discount. I may have the opportunity to get a Cobalt SS Turbo for around the same price as a 08-09 Lancer GTS, which is the 20-21k$ range (The sticker price is 25k$ on the Cobalt normally).

I still love my Lancer, but it's performance leaves me with something to be desired. The Cobalt can run the 1/4 mile in 14 seconds flat, no lift shifting, LSD, TCS, and the suspension are some of the really great features on the car. However I just cant get over how much I like the way the Lancer looks - Inside and Out.

Should I go for a cobalt? Or maybe wait until the R/A is available? I know for sure ill still be paying 4-5k$ more for the R/A and it's speculated to perform about the same as the SS Cobalt. Or Maybe I should Suck it up and just enjoy my Lancer how it is.

Plus the Cobalt SS posted the fastest time on the Nurenburg Ring of any stock production front wheel drive car.

i was kinda in your situation before. I looked at the evos but i couldnt get one at the time. then i found this older bmw that i really liked and i was going to buy, but i didnt. and im glad i didnt because i found a used evo! i bought that and i couldnt be happier with my decision. Its good to always to go for what you want. its well worth the wait

situation is key and what you are going to do with it. If you want to drag then Cobalt is the way to go. If you are going to track it then evo would be a better direction. If you want to just drive it around then its going to be about your preference.

well If ur already willing to spend 25k I suggest u get the ra.. Not only does it look good it has the performance aspect . U just have to wait longer but that might be good because it gives u time to save up for a bigger down payment if ur financing it

Thanks for the input everyone.

Well, I live about 15-20 min away from a decent drag strip that has races every weekend, I go up there sometimes, its fun, but not so much when you're the slowest car there .
I'm also from Ohio, so there's always the opportunity to go down to the mid-ohio track for some fun too, I haven't done any track or autocross racing but I would like to try it in the future. Obviously I want to defend myself on the streets as well, against the high-schoolers and their civics . But I dont go driving around looking to race everyone I see.

GM really pulled out the stops on the new Cobalt though, I also read that, about its run at the Ring being way faster than the other cars in it's class. I think it even beat a Porsche 911's time as well. However, it doesn't look anywhere near as sexy as the RA does.

i wish i didnt buy my car but i NEEDED it to go to school so i had to buy one.. now if i didn't i would be waiting for the RA, since it has a turbo from the factory and i believe awd.... so that in it self would be worth it....good luck with ur purchase..

the cobalt is quick, but the interior leaves much more to be desired. They also hold worse resale value than mitsu and have a worse reliability record. I think the lancer is a better car but its tough when performance is your main goal. Maybe the RA is calling your name.

Yeah. I think i'm just gonna hold out for the RA, I like its looks, AWD, and better quality. Plus Evo X upgrades will probably work fine in it.
