HID w/o relay harness?

I recently purchased a HID kit that didn't come with a relay harness. It just plugs strait into the 9006 plug. Is this harmful to the car over time?? I remember reading HID's should always be used with a relay harness. If its Okay, Will the bypass' listed on this page work?

Thx

you need the relay wire, i installed my hid the way that 08gtsmayhem showed on the forum, and i followed it but i didnt know he was talking bout the relay wire, until i scrolled down the page, because if no relay is used then one of your hid lights will flick on and off, and i didnt purchase a relay so my friend made me one

Yeah you will want to get a relay harness and do it like the diy. It will help insure you headlight harness will be safe.

I see I would say why does he need a relay harness? I ran 3000k H10s and 8000k 9007s on my 03 Ranger and I never had a single problem with the HIDs and flickering or anything of that sort.

Each car is different. If you look at faq lighting it explains it. DRL systems operate on reduced wattage or fluctuating current levels. This will cause the HID system to flicker and burn out prematurely.

Imagine that we connect the HID ballast directly to where the low beam halogen bulb is connected. Some vehicles might be are able to power up HID systems normally without problems at install time. Most probably, it will not last long. The inrush load can be up to max 13 amps per ballast, compared to 7amps inrush when using halogen. The factory design parameters for headlight curcuit is 7 amps inrush and 4.5 amps continous load. So over time, connectors, multifunction switch, headlight switch, wiring and fuse holders will slowly degrade, beacuse of heat buildup.
