Evo motor in OZ
Hey everyone, I'm remotely new to the lancer...I bought an 03 Lancer OZ Rally the other day...and while searching for a modification path, I got word that one of my buddies rolled his 06 evo MR....I am now the proud owner of it....here is my question/questions...what would it take to drop this 4g63 in my lancer?
would take a bit of work. though dont let others try an make u not want to do it if you REALLY want to. some guys in the socal lancer club recently made a AWD Oz rally with evo 8 motor
Ok ProKid, u say no because u have never done it, it would make a sweet project and yes a lot of work and money but y be like everyone else...now please can I have some positive replies thank u

U will need.. someone who can make u engine mounts.. so someone with a Mig welder and some scrap metal who can spend the time at ur place to get the motor in the engine bay.(honestly should take someone about an hour to do it as long as they know what there doing with a mig welder and understand what there making.. U will need to pickup an Eclipse or galant transmission, so u can EASILLY drop the motor in and get it running as a FWD setup..
If u want the AWD drivetrain, thats were it gets very complicated.. a fwd setup is easilly achieved with an evo motor.. very common swap in the mirage family, not so common with the lancers since its considered voodoo to put evo parts on a lancer.
really. droppin in the evo motor isnt a big deal.. custom engine mount an trans mount, as long as u have the correct fwd transmission setup, most all the ecu n wiring harness will hook up, and u can get someone to flash the evo rom on ur factory ecu to make things even simpler.. If u strip the motor down and take all the unneccessary sensors off it makes it even simpler to get running..
if u want the awd drivetrain.. GL with that.. Hours n hours n days n weeks of work to get all fab'd up to work.. to big of a change to be considered an 'easy' swap, and isnt for a novice. id sell the transfer case and transmission and differentials and driveshaft n axles for mega bucks and use that to recoop all ur costs in what ur putting into the lancer
honestly a FWD evo motor swap is about as difficult as a honda B series swap, and a lot easier then a K series swap.. lol

LOL I love how someone who has not done a 4g63t swap himself makes this sound like it's a 'simple stroll in the park' and not expect to get mugged.
Look, OP... I will tell you right now, just the wiring alone will make you quit. What this other guy forgot to mention is that a lot of the sensors on the EVO are not compatible with the base Lancer ECU. And I don't even mean that in the sense that a simple ROM flash will fix it... they are basically mechanically incompatible. The harness connectors either don't fit, or are all totally pinned wrong.
Another thing that wasn't mentioned or explained properly is the transmission issue if you want to run FWD. What transmission is needed exactly?? Oh that's right, NO ONE IS REALLY SURE BECAUSE IT HAS NOT BEEN DONE YET. But I will branch off with this thought for you folks, the first 4g64 swap ever done on a Lancer almost failed because of transmission incompatibility. So expect to do your homework thoroughly and most likely expect to do custom work EVEN if you're going the FWD route. Oh and if you think you can get away with going for an Eclipse GS-t setup, think again! That engine layout is 180 degrees the wrong way.
I started my build on August of 2007... and it became operational on November, 2010. There's another guy on here from Canada with a build similar to mine, and he has yet to finish. What do we have in common? Neither of us started a thread on here ASKING how to swap engines. What I'm basically saying is that if you have to ask HOW to do it, you are most likely NOT ready to tackle this swap or deal with the many issues that you will definitely run into.
Hell, even Honda engine swaps are a pain in the *** for novices, let alone a 4g63t swap. Hey, if it really is that easy, why hasn't RRM or any other shop specializing in Lancers, or EVOs for that matter, done it? Many shops have swapped k20s into Fits and such, and yet none have done a 4g63t into a Lancer. Give that some thought...
