Re: Problem turning temperature knob
Re: Problem turning temperature knob
Hey Folks
I just installed the new parts to fix the hard-to-move climate control knob (as per this thread).
To address any outstanding questions, it was a TSB and not a recall. And they did redesign the parts - it provided ~95% reduction in force required to turn the knob. (My opinion)
Part #: 7801A110
Price: $20.68 CAD, before tax.
As stated in the original thread the parts are located above and to the right of the acceleration pedals. Just a warning, it stinks light feet down there! I'm up in Canada so my floor was wet even with rubber mats (removed).
All that's required is a light, a phillips head screwdriver (nubby preferably) and I used a small set of vice-grips to pinch the clip.
Before the install:

2 Screws to be removed (top right and far left in this picture). Bottom right is the wire/clip. Bottom center is where the two pieces attach.

The wire is held by this clip, I used the vice grips just to 'pinch the barb' (like a fishing hook) so the O-ring just slid off.

As you can see the original was a 'zig-zag' pattern.
New Parts:

And the new parts are an 'L' shape.
After the install:

Narsty.
Time: Approx. 5-15 minutes.
Ease: Very. I'm 6'3, 220lbs, the hardest part was just fitting under my steering wheel LOL!
2004 Lancer OZ
(not really a how-to ... but feel free to move it if you must)

Damn, The plastic that pushes into the knob broke off last week. Do they have a replacement for that piece ? I will be ordering the updated L piece shortly but any suggestion on replacing that piece that broke off in the knob other then adhesive/epoxy ?
