How to drive CVT on lancer in shift mode
its more like a simulated manual. left paddle shifter to down shift, right paddle to up shift. no clutch for you to depress. just mess around with it you'll figure out how to use it. good luck
Did the dealer really not explain how that part works? That is sort of sad. Play with the sport mode, for normal driving shift when your RPMs are in the 3k range, riding too long above 3k without shifting puts more strain on your engine than needed so keep the gear number on something around 3000 RPMs. Its a pretty fun transmission in sport mode, a pain to use all the time living in the city like I do, but when out on country roads its VERY fun.

Your first shift from 1 to 2 should be around 2500-3000rpms
Shifting to 3, 4, 5, and 6 should be around 3000-3500rpms
You can cruse in 5 or 6 and just shift down whenever you need some more power, for example when passing someone.
Just takes a little playing around with and you'll figure it out in no time.

correct me if im wrong but doesn't the RMP always stay around 3000 rpm when u shift up, I mean it doesn't drop much. Do you ever let go of the gas pedal? how does downshifting help with passing? Doesn't downshifting slows down the car? I thought u were suppose to use downshift to slow down so u dont have to step on brakes.... seriously I've never driven and stick and don't know much about them

No I'm pretty sure it drops down to like 2500ish.
> Do you ever let go of the gas pedal?
No, you only let go if you have a clutch, which we don't have.
>how does downshifting help with passing?
If you step on the gas while cruzing at 6, or let your car coast and slow down while in 6 and then step on the gas you'll notice the car doesn't really accelerate. This is because 6 is your coasting gear, but it's not good for acceleration because the gear ratio is too high to efficiently transfer the power from your engine to the wheels. By shifting down to a lower gear you enter a more optimal gear ratio that will allow you to speed the car up.
>I thought u were suppose to use downshift to slow down
This is also true. As I said before 6 is the optimal gear ratio for cruzing speed. By shifting down, but not stepping on the gas, you'll enter gear ratios too low for cruzing, therefore causing you car to slow down.
It all comes down to using the optimal gear ratio for whatever you're trying to do.

I've been trying to drive it in shift mode and I do my shifting to 4th gear and I stay around 40mph and the rpm is at around 2500-3000... do I keep it at the pace if I wanted to stay at that speed? Also when I'm coming to a stop at a red light or stop sign, I just step on the brakes and it shifts down to gear 1 when I'm completely stopped, is that the correct way to do it or should I manually shift down to 1 slowly..... Also when I want to slow down let say im at 40mph at 2600 rpm and I want to drop to speed of 25mph, do I downshift or do I just take my foot off the gas pedal? or do I step on the brakes a bit? I'm kind of lost what to do, I don't want to mess up the transmission....
>do I keep it at the pace if I wanted to stay at that speed
No, you still want to shift to at least 5th gear if you're reached your desired cruising speed. You can stay at 40mph, just make sure you complete the shifting up to 5th or 6gh.
>it shifts down to gear 1 when I'm completely stopped, is that the correct way to do it or should I manually shift down to 1 slowly
It doesn't matter, you can let it shift to 1 automatically or you can do it manually slowly. However I suggest you just let it do it on its own.
>I want to drop to speed of 25mph, do I downshift or do I just take my foot off the gas pedal?
You can simply let off the gas or press the break a little. There is no need to downshift if you want to reduce your speed. Though if you wanted to regain those 25mph back up to 40mph you would have to downshift to like 5 or 4 and back up to 6 as you reached cruising speed.
>I don't want to mess up the transmission....
Don't worry, it's very unlikely you'll mess anything up. Just don't floor it from a stop and stay in 1, you'll rev too high. And don't instantly downshift to 1 from cruising at 6, like you said you have to step down slowly. Avoid those 2 scenarios and you'll be fine.
>i swear it feels like the rpm doesnt drop much....
It's going to vary depending on how much you're pressing the gas. If you calmly leave a stop you'll shift to 2 around 2500ish and it will barely drop rpm. If you're looking to gun it off the line you prob wont shift to 2 until 3250ish and 3/4/5/6 around 4250ish and the rpm drop in between shifts will be noticeable lower. Don't rely just on looking at the rpms, those numbers we throw out are just general guidelines. It's not a stick but you can still listen to the engine and hear when's a good time to shift up to the next gear. Listening is the best method.

Dude you really dont need an instructor its real simple. If your doing this from a stand still point just slide your gear shift over and you will see 1 show up on the dash get on the gas and you will see the rpm hand going up according how much gas you give the quicker the rpm hand will raise dont b afraid just push the gear shift towards the + and keep on goin
