acceleration

what would be the best upgrades i can make (pre-turbo) for acceleration keeping in mind i plan on putting a turbo in when i can. but for right now i need some more acceleration so mustangs cant pull away from me lol

i almost beat him but once i hit about 45 he passed me and pulled away for a sec, so i need more acc, and more mid- high end

i already have an SRI, and please dont suggest something that will cost a lottt of money (like a turbo) i just dont have much right now, i just dont know what would increase my acceleration from here, im thinking maybe a lightweight flywheel or something? and my car is auto trans so please help on what i can do!!

A lightweight flywheel will barely increase your horsepower figures, I think I read that on an EVO the increased power from that mod was around .5 hp.

The best things you could do now are:
-Cat-back exhaust (I bought mine from SRS for $250, I was very impressed with the quality)
-Lightweight CRANK pulley; You can use the one from the 4g93. I personally haven't done this mod, but people report back with minimal but noticeable gains.
-Port and polish. You could probably do this yourself if you're comfortable working on cars. If not, pay a machine shop to do it for you.
-Tuning. Buy a Tactrix cable and a WBO2 and start getting comfortable with logging and fiddling with the ECU. This would be a good idea to do now since you plan on going FI.

thanks for all the advice, i was thinking about doing that but i just dont want to possibly mess something up and still have to pay the car off when it could end up dead cause i dont really know what im doing with ecuflash, ive read up a wholeee lot on it but i still dont think id feel comfortable doing it myself but i do need to start somewhere.

as for the flywheel i really expected more than .5 hp, i didnt expect much at all but i figured itd be more like 5 hp

i was looking at the same cat-back i do believe but i seen it for $300 and it was the cheapest i found, did you notice any decent gains from that though?

i was also thinking about RRM's underdrive pulley, its lightweight, i just would not be able to do the timing belt stuff on my own, i wouldnt want to risk bending valves and screwing things up.

and what would you say i should expect to pay for a shop to port and polish the IM, or the head?

It's easy to start, just get out there and start logging and if you don't fell you're ready to change anything, then don't. Just log and get used to what's normal and what isn't, then slowly begin tweaking things.

It's a common misconception that a lightweight flywheel increases horsepower. The main advantage to them is that they make it easier to blip the throttle on a downshift.

RRM is a good company. As for the timing belt, go download the Lancer FSM here on the forums, it'll show you how to do it. It's not that daunting of a task

I personally don't know what you could expect to pay for a professional port job. I know that Buschur charges $150 from the EVO guys for the IM. I paid about $50 for everything I need to do it myself.

When I did my exhaust, I bought headers, which came with a lifetime warranty (OBX), and the cat-back (Senki Revo Sport). I was actually surprised, I noticed a nice increase in top-end power. Nothing to brag about, but it added some power. Also, it's got a real nice deep tone and doesn't sound like a Civic's fart cannon.

Another thing I remembered now is the piggyback ECU that RRM offers, but it's pricey and would probably be a waste since you're going turbo.

true, i suppose i couldnt hurt to start.

and i believe it was 3-350 for then to port the manifold and the tb

i think im going to find a cat back and work on headers but is there a specific kind that will bolt up to a turbo? or can i buy any ones?

yeah i was glad just from the increase the SRI gave, it made the engine sound twice as loud as it once and it has a depper tone, its really nice lol

N/A headers won't work with a FI setup, they're completely different. Go with OBX if you can justify the price depending on how soon you're going turbo. The cheap ones on eBay are tempting, but those welds are crap and they don't come with a warranty. I can post up pics of my exhaust setup if you want to see how it all looks.

it will probably be about a year - a year and a half before i am able to get all the parts for turbo, so i could find fun with something even if its not for turbo setups i suppose, at least for now..
yeah, that would be cool, will give me an idea of how itll look, and how much hp are you making with your setup?

Haha not much more than stock. Our engines don't respond well to bolt-on upgrades N/A. I'll upload some pics here when I get home later today.

yeah they dont find the best gains from them, but i mean 5-10hp from the headers would probably good enough for me.. i just cant have a stock car, i gotta have some stuff done to it, and hopefully dont get walked on by any ricers, i cant take that chance XD

i just need some stuff i can do and have decent gains for now, i dont mind mustangs as much cause they are powerful cars, (the older ones at least) but if i get beat by a freaking honda ill probably cry then set their car on fire XD

Just start piecing together your turbo kit man...anything you buy now you will regret buying when ur going to be turbo...your car will not be faster unless you do major mods as n/a (pistons, cams, etc...) which are expensive and not easy to install if you're not an experienced mechanics. The parts you buy now will have to be replaced later when u go turbo anyways...be patient it's worth the wait for real power...and it's the only way you're going to go faster than a honda.

alright, any places you would suggest for certain parts?

EVO classifieds on here, Lancershop.com, streettunedmotorsports.com, buschurracing.com, car-part.com, etc.

Btw, you'll probably want the exhaust when you go turbo so if you want to do something now, that would be the best option.
