Question about L gear in the PRNDL shifter.

Is it ok to shift from L to D and vice versa while driving or is it bad for the tranny?

Depends.

If you are going kinda' slow -no problem. At hwy speeds? It will redline and go to fuel cut off.

It is there for using engine braking when going down a mountain (because if you just used your brakes - they would overheat by the bottom when you needed them most!) or as a last ditch effort to slow the car if the main brakes failed.

Take off from a stop and it should limit you to second (third gear?) and that will will tell you what speed you can safely drop it into. (Or read the manual).

I hope this helped...

Yes it did help, thanks for the info. But once I reach redline in L it's ok for me to shift it into D? I don't have to come to a stop before I put it in D?

Question: Why are you even shifting from L to D? L is good if you're in snow or as said going down hill, where you want a low gear, if you are driving on normal streets and just DD the car, stay in D. Car would be quicker in D anyways. If you wanna shift a automatic, just get the paddles.
