What is the best place to mount your radar detector?

As the tittle says, I have my V1 mounted on the front windshield of course under the rearview mirror. its not at the highest point but it is in the middle of the windshield on both the vertical and horizontal axis more or less. I have seen some people mount theirs righ on front of the drivers seat up high?

I am just looking for some suggestions and ideas.

well specially if you consider the shopping cart wing evos have
if you are not careful then the rear sensor will be aiming right at the wing

Depends. For radar, you want it as high on the windshield as possible. However, for laser protection, lower is better, since cops aim lasers low to try to hit the front bumper and/or license plate. I have mine mounted low on the windshield, just above the windshield wipers, and in the center, so the rear laser sensor can "see" through the seats.

Under the rear seat , so cops dont see it! My friend has a valentine and that thing works no matter where you put it.. We had it just sitting on the seat plugged in and it picked up a signal over a mile away in the city..

X is about 10.5 GHz, K is 10G more (~20.5Ghz) and Ka is again 10 more at around 30.5Ghz.

Laser is none of the above. It is in the visable light spectrum around 900nm.

The reason I asked is because I dont want slam on my brakes all the time... I want to know which alert to really worry about if I am speeding a little bit.

Best place to mount: http://www.valentine1.com/moreinfo/p...ng_pg17-18.pdf
I got hit twice with a X-band strength 1.
got hit once with ProLaserIII
Ka and K are the one's you need to worry about. By the time your radar displays X (laser) they've probably already got you registered.
look here for complete info on radar detectors/jammers:

Mounting Your Radar Detector
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
First off, it is a good idea to follow manufacturer's recommendations. Here is what the operator's manuals for the popular high-end detectors have to say:

Escort 8500 X50, BEL STi Driver, BEL RX-65:
"Using the Windshield Mount, mount your (detector) level, and high enough on your front windshield to provide a clear view of the road from the front and rear."

Valentine One:
"Valentine One works best when mounted high in the windshield, and toward the center between the windshield pillars. Use your choice of windshield or visor mounts"

Performance Considerations

High mounting
Good for Radar: higher mounting gives you more "line-of-sight" with the targeting radar. If you do the math, one foot higher mounting gives you an few tenths of a mile extra, maybe even more than 1/2 mile. The average driver isn't likely to notice such a small difference in range, but it might help out in a pinch (detecting brief instant-on at long range)

Good for detecting laser targeting vehicles ahead, since it can "see" through their windows better etc.

Bad for detecting laser targeting you, since it is mounted further from the aiming point (front plate/headlight).

Low mounting
Not as good for radar, but you might not be giving up too much.

Good for detecting laser targeting you: closer to the aiming points(front plate/lights). More likely to give a laser warning when you are targeted, and you'll have time to slow down if they don't get a reading when you are first targeted, such as if you have a dark vehicle, are using VEIL, they aren't holding the gun steady etc.

Not as good for detecting laser targeting vehicles ahead, since it can't "see" through their windows as well

Mounting in the middle might give you some combination of the above.

Other Things to Consider:

If you don't have a laser jammer, but have a dark car, VEIL, etc, then consider mounting low. You'll have a better chance of getting a warning when you're being targeted, and might have a chance to slow down before he gets a speed reading.

If you don't have a laser jammer or VEIL, and have a light-colored car that can be easily targeted by laser, then consider mounting high. You'll have a better chance of getting lucky with a prior warning when a vehicle ahead is targeted.

If you have a laser jammer, then you are covered for laser pretty well. You might as well mount the detector high to maximize radar range.

If you mount TOO low then you could obscure the rear radar or laser sensor on your detector.

If you plan on leaving the detector in your vehicle, and theft is a concern in your area, then of course it should be mounted in a way that makes it the least visible from outside the vehicle. Many people in choose to hardwire the detector, and mount it high.

You also might want to mount the detector so that is is easily visible to the driver, and also easy to access for changing modes, muting, etc. The less time your eyes are off the road, the better.

X isn't anything to worry about. No law enforcement uses it anymore, except maybe Barney in Mayberry. Even K band is rarely used in my state except on construction signs (don't know why). They all use Ka band and laser.

I haven't seen a X-band besides the damned sliding doors..
Ka and K band are the worse in Boston. I've never got a laser reading until I went through the Fast Lane at the tolls accidentally... I still paid though cause there was someone standing there haha.

RaDaRkInG... Sounds like your a member of Guys of lidar since your pimping that link or this is Radar Roy.

Just to let you all know...VEIL is a scam and does not work in any ways...at any distance. I have a empty container of VEIL right next to me and it was a total waste of $$$ but hey I was interested in testing it so I know in person that it does not work. I tested in on SUV's, small black civics and other cars and the VEIL did not work. The lidar guns used was the Pro Laser III, UltraLyte 20/20 LRB, LTI 20/20 (100pps), Marksmen, Stalker and the Laser Atlanta III and the end result was that the VEIL never in anyway gave the driver any time to slow down or gave any of the lidar guns any trouble at all. Dont waste your hard earned $$$ and think it will save you, because it wont.

I am not a member of the GOL and I am not RR but I know who you are and I have seen the videos of you wearing a labcoat. I am on your side because I know that the Valentine One is the best.
