Are you a drag racer? I'm not.

When the car is cornering, the amount of downforce on the rear of the car is just as important. Yes, canards help front downforce. But I want downforce everywhere so I get better traction everywhere.

blue04 - shame on you for agreeing with him. Do you really understand that little about cars? And Lancers easily break the 100 mark. I've never crossed 110, but they get up to 125 pretty well.

technically, the VG doesn't ADD any downforce. It creates a vortex that reduces the lift over the rear by interfering with the laminar flow of air over the rear..... which is the same way the spoiler works. The VG will simply add to this effect, further reducing the lift on the rear, but can't actually add downforce.... the amount of lift it removes, however, will likely be slight, at best. This is a show mod IMHO. I was going to do it when the MR came out, but couldn't really justify it on my "go no show" car

ambystom01 - stop thinking about drag racing. We don't all drive in straight lines.

KRIS? Not you too. You're an autoxer! I expect more of you!

Heres the thing to consider, the car does not power the rear wheels, and as such, putting a huge wing, or VG to increase the downforce on the back will not help with cornering. Furthermore, the car is solid, take your hand and keep it stiff, now push down on the back, what happens to the front? It pops up, the same thing happens with a car, which in a FWD is very undesirable, you want to maximize the force on the front while keeping just enough on the back to keep it from getting squirrely on you. This means the best things you can do on a FWD car are lower it, put a front air dam on it, front canards, low side skirts, and a small wing.

Well, let's agree to disagree. I'll go with whole car downforce, you go with front downforce, and we'll both be happy. Deal?

Oh and I'm not thinking about just drag racing, but unfortunately that's one of the few fields that most people can relate to to some degree, and considering it is in drag racing where the cars actually get fast enough to use these devices, it is the most suitable for this conversation.

Alright, works for me. Note, I'm not saying to do just front aerodynamic mods, that would just be weird, but the aerodynamic forces that are ideal for an evo are far different than those of a base lancer.

why do all the no show mod guys come into show and shine?, but yet bash on everyone else for putting shows mods into their car, blacklancer like how it looks. done. i dont think he cares whether or not it will add any downforce to his rear...

it is a show mod, wanna argue whether its gonna add downforce to the rear or whether it will be funtional to his car, then start another thread, too bad mods dont do anything around here, cus i woulda trimmed this already

so keep it on topic

I'm not bashing him at all, if I was, you'd know, I'm simply pointing out that is just that, a show mod, it has no realistic performance applications on our car.

dude u only want it cuz it's carbon fiber .

But I agree, we can't afford evos that's why we spend all our hard earned $$$ on our Lancers...heck me too...i wanna turbo my lancer in the near future. But I'd rather get a front splitter before the VG. It only makes sense cuz all our power are in the front wheels and we wanna keep that power to the floor. Plus the VG looks so dumb...totally kills the ride.
