Smile Carbon Fiber Caliper Covers

I first saw these in a copy of eurotuner for a bmw. I think these look awsome and is something we havent seen much of. http://bavauto.com/fland.asp?rid=17163

Its a nice alternative to painting the calipers if you dont want to upgrade to a big brake kit. I've already pitched the idea to carbonbydesign but if we can get the demand up we'll have a better chance of getting these made. What do you guys think?

for $300 i'd much rather buy a nice suspension upgrade (sway w/ autocross perches) or throw it in the bank for my turbo fund

i agree that the cost is greater than anything I'd pay, but im sure that there are many show minded members who would love these. If we are lucky we might be able to get a vendor to make them at a lower price or even a group buy of some sort.

i think anything that can hurt braking performance is a no-go. those would insulate the brakes when hot . they also would probably discolor after time and i think that brake cleaner will etch the resin.

thats a good point about affecting braking performance. I'm looking at these from a strictly show P.O.V. and yes I know 300 is a lot. I'm not saying we should all run out and buy these.

Im just trying to see if anyone would ever buy something like this if it were made (you know, just trying to get more stuff for our cars out there) I'm sure the finished product would be a bit pricey but it doesnt necessarily have to be $300. Thats just what these vendors are charging for them.

If we were able to get them made we might be able to get the price down, or have a group buy for them.

As for them possibly affecting braking performance...who knows. I suppose it all depends on who and how they are manufactured by. I certainly wouldnt recommend these for autoX guys, but if you're someone who does lots of shows and wants an extra edge, these could be it.
