My New Piggyback

Hey guys, I am the new owner of a RRM piggyback. Let me tell you its pritty good so far. It seems like with the AC on i have as much powere as i useto with the ac off and now with no ac it feels really strong. My only issues are my car idles a little rough now. Its probably just a bad run on the ecu when it was learning so i think ima reset it.

Im also gonna do a how to on splicing wired with solder because i realised there is no how to and what better way then to use my EE degree than teaching others about electronics.

Ill keep you updated.

alot the problems people have is because rrm tuned it for california, and when it gets cold, it seems the piggyback doesn't know what to do and freaks out

there are other problems too, but it just goes to show you a pre-programmed generic PB is not a good thing.

you need something customers can tune themselves if necessary (for altitude, humidty, temperature, etc) and/or something self learning that does the above on the fly (ripp's black box for example)

but hey, for all the folks that got one and it works, congrats

Well there is nothing wrong with it so far. The car runs great while I am driving, when i am idleing it just gives me alittle bit of a jolt here and there. Similar to having the AC on. Everyone is saying its just gonna take alittle more time for that to go away and it will in time so ill make my final statement when it goes away.

Ya the little joltyness should go away. It is just the computer learning and it dips down real low in RPMs sometimes. Usually happens when you come to a stop.

I don't know what anyone is talking about with the piggy. I have it with my RRM stage 2 turbo and I live in PA where right now it is in the 90's, and I installed the piggy toward the end of winter when it was still in the 30's some days and I've never had any problems. I did notice though that it is pretty sensitive with the connections. I think the main problems people are having are probably from bad connections/incorrect wiring, or just the bad luck of getting a bad unit. My install went just as RRM's instructions stated as well as the learning process, no problems. Maybe I was just one of the lucky ones, I don't know. I don't really know how much more power it gives me since I installed it with my turbo, but I am more than happy with the power I get and with the way the car runs, at idle, at WOT, and with the AC on.

Good to hear its running strong. Hopefully the jumpiness will go away. For making good secure connections, the evo ecu harness extender thing will fit the lancer as well. That way you can solder all your connections at a workbench and not worry about screwing up the factory wiring. Or you can disconnect it and pull the whole thing out in 10 seconds if you have to worry about warranty work. (just plug the vacuum line). Hopefully around Christmas I'll get a piggyback, and I was going to use the evo ecu harness extender to connect everything.

The NA PB is a completely different animal in terms of the tune.

Yep last night when it was nice and cool, i steped on it. I am really amazed at how much power this single mod gives you. There was this little ricer driving around with his loud *** car on the freeway. Pased my be goin over 100 so I hopped on that bioch and cought up to him IN 5th without downshifting. I now have steady power through the powerband startin at around 3 grand. This is somthing i had none of considering my testpipe and greddy cat back. Besids the idle deal, i give this mod an A+++. I was also thinking about how many other mods make your car idle wierd and i could live with this one doing so.

Wont work because there is still a wire youve gotta cut completely to send the signal to the splitsec device.
