got my RRM fiberglass grill
hey all, i just recently got my RRM fiberglass grill, not the evo style. and i love it, i test fitted it b4 painting...
was just wondering, how can i paint this on my own at home, without having to go to a body shop. I'm planning to use spray cans, i have some experience painting with 'em so i know i wont ***** up, but i never painted fiberglass...
do i have to primer it? my grill came in with a matt black coating, is that the primer? its not metal so i dont have to worry about chippage.
munich silver (A69), do u think i gotta order special code paint? or do u think i can just use silver spray paint? enamel?
do i gotta clear coat it too?
i dunno the procedures of primering and painting, never painted car part...
btw, search didn't provide any step by step painting methods.

Here's what you're best bet is if you are still wondering about painting.
Step 1: Call around local paint shops and see if they do custom cans of spray paint that will match paint codes. When I had my Civic I went to a place called Paintmasters and got a can and it matched perfectly. If the grill is not already primed, ask the guys at the paint shop about primer and they will hook you up with the right primer color (lighter car should use white or light grey primer, darker should use a dark grey). Also ask them about clear coating, as this will give the grill a nice gloss look to it and more protection.
Step 2: Find a large peice of cardboard as a backdrop for the painting. Wet it down and take it to where you are going to paint. Some things to make sure happen where you paint: temperature around 75 degree and dust free.
Step 3: Give it about 3 good thick coats of paint letting each coat dry for a an hour or two (or ask the guys at the paint shop how long to wait). Throw about 3 coats of clear coat on and you're good to go.

Glad to see that my step by step guide to the installation helped someone. Sorry I didn't put the painting part in the guide, but I got the RRM CF grill and I didn't need to paint it! Post some pics once the grill is installed.
