There should be suction from them Engine at the TB, and it should suck in Air.
That tube steals some of the Air thats flowing and uses it for cooling parts of the Engine.
The position def. matters.
If it were up front even, and came at an angle twards the Engine from the Tubing, it would be even better probably cus that suction, would cause some of the Air to by pulled and just like a Hood Scoop, pushed-into the Hose.
Being behind (where it is) makes that more difficult.
The TB is sucking in from that hose (particles of Oil), rather than just Air, and allowing Air flow and push through the hose on its own, naturally.

Or was it a steel hinge to begin with?
Well, all i will say is its metal, with a bit of welding involved

Again suction isn't directional, the hose could be up, down, left, right, back in time and it would still experience the same force, suction. That tube is not for cooling, it is meant for ventilation, from what I remember it's an oil bypass valve of sorts, oil blowoff is sent back into the intake to be burned to improve cleanliness. The last thing you want is air to be blown into your head. Maybe you should review fluid dynamics before saying things like that.

Exactly, hence why a filter on that orifice is called a breather filter.

those filters are illegal on road cars here in Australia, Something about excessive Emissions and danger of oil spilling through the filter and getting on the headers...
hence why it gets burnt again in the air intake

Well Ok then, I was misinformed and I learned something new. No reason to get all cocky about it... fuckin' "fluid dynamics". squirt!

It's not being cocky, it's being well read and knowledgeable. I'm seen enough threads on here, hell well before you were even a member, involving breather filters and all the idiots that think they're great ideas despite all the problems they can and regularly do cause. It's not even advanced fluid dynamics, most people with a basic understanding of engines and vacuums can figure out that air shouldn't be entering the head uncontrolled and from an intake pipe. It'd be like an exhaust that for some reason sucks air into the combustion chamber or a turbo that spits air out the intake.

If this is how you react when someone corrects you I hope you never go to university, you'll get eaten alive.

Perhaps since expression doesnt travel well over the net, and being that we're from very different places, how you say what you say, and vice-versa, can easily be misinterperated as other than how it was meant to sound.

"I hope you never"... Thats a perfect example.
Cus I didnt know about that ****, I must be an uneducated ignoramus huh?

I do go to a University btw, and a World renowned one at that.
Its known as "Full Sail", & it rivals Julliard.

World renowned? I wouldn't go that far. Harvard is world renowned, Oxford is world renowned, Full Sail is not, at least not in science. I never said anything about your intelligence, the comment was actually directed at how you take every form of criticism or correction as a threat or an insult and as such feel the need to defend yourself. If I did that I'd never survive university as as much as you think you know, someone will always know more and be more than willing to share it, whether you like it or not.
