Exclamation Cleaned my engine bay today

God I wish I had a camera to show the before and after shot. I've wanted to wash the bay for weeks. At first I tried with water and soap I took me like 10 minutes to take off a little square inch of dirt and grease.

Then I figured, what the Hell... Let's try the Gunk Engine Cleaner Damn that stuff is great. I am finnaly not shy anymore to pop the hood.

Just had to let you know. Cause I know my girlfriend won't give a **** about it. She'll probably say: " Why didn't you clean the room instead?"

Gunk Engine Cleaner? I have never heard of that, is it safe to use and where did you get it, a Pep Boys kind of shop or order it somewhere?

that last statement is soooo true. My engine bay still looks pretty good. I should probably clean it, so it stays that way. But by the time I finish my detailing the outer and interior, I am too tired to worry about the engine bay.

edit: zapco it is sold at just about every national auto parts store chain. autozone and pep boys being the first that come to mind.

What did you have to do to clean it? Did you have to cover up things like the intake, battery etc? I DESPISE dirty w/ a passion and my car is always clean, except for the engine bay. Please post on how to clean, thank you.

Actually I did it the hard way... Idid not cover anything because I did everything by hand. On my previous car I followed the instructions that say to cover everything that is electrical and the Intake. Once everything is cover, you spray that stuff everywhere and let it do it's job for 10 15 minutes. But I didn't like the job it had done. Many grease spots were still there.

So this time, I took my can and a cloth. Little by little, I sprayed Gunk on my cloth and rubbed every single inchs of the engine bay and under-hood (well... almost). The sides of the bay where all black because of the rubber under the hood and who knows what else. Now my sides are almost as yellow as the rest of my car.

Took me over 2 hours, but in my opinion, those were 2 hours very well spent.

umm yea one cleaning my engine is one of the greatest things to do, i absolutly love to clean my engine GUNK is a good brand, so is son of a gun engine cleaner they i know are both fine products.

blaze_125 that is some dedication man, for those who aren't as dedicated if you cover all you main parts and work by common sence, like would you want that part to get wet or not if you think not put a rag over it. Then spreay your cleaner all over but not thick just a covering spray. Then hears the crazy part use the hose on a light setting and wash it all away paying attention to not soking the rags that cover you intake and electrical stuff.

and presto clean engine i haven't done mine in like a month cause all it's done for the past month and a half was rain, rain, rain.

Actually my neighboors think I'm crazy or something. With a cloth and a can, I think the results are much better. I just take longer. But yeah, for those who don't want to spend hours cleaning, BlkLancer's solution is the way to go.

Yeah you could but you won't. I've got new rules for my car. No more freakin makeup while I drive and no more messy mechanic. A while ago I went for an oil change and the guy spilled a few drops over my cover. This week when I went back, I told the lady to tell her mechanic to be carefull this time cause I had spent so much time cleaning it.

But if you promess no to drop any sauce on the engine, maybe I'll let you. Let me think about it

LOL I think I'm going to have to do that this weekend. I've had the car for two months, and I haven't touched the engine bay. It's not going to be pretty.

Gunk, huh? I guess I'll have to go to the CanTire this weekend...
