You cannot make money modifying cars unless you plan on building a one-off car. Sure you can buy an Evo RS for 15000$ and sell it for 20000$, but you'll need to dump 8000$ into it to get it to that point. People aren't stupid, they're not going to buy a car for more than it would cost them to do the same thing. If someone told me they dumped 8000$ into the car, I'd offer at most 8000$ over the original price, I'd probably first offer 5000$ and move to 6500$ if need be. I've seen people try to get 15000$ for a lancer, but surprise surprise, it sits in their driveway for months because for that price you could almost buy a new one. Car modifications is not an investment or a way to make money, it is a hobby that you do because you enjoy it.

I haven't seen a EVO 8 RS for 15K unless your talking about one with a blown motor.

It takes a lot of work to make a lancer have as much power as an evo, a lot (money wise). It still won't be an evo, you'll spend more money making a lancer and evo then it would be to just go out and buy an evo, insurance and all. Also, the insurance on the lancer might not be cheaper once you tell them what has been done to it, which you should do. If you get into an accident and the insurance company finds out that you modified the car, they can refuse your claim and just drop your coverage all together.

Correct. This isn't a WRX-STI situation where the two cars are similar.

Hell even that's hard, turning a WRX into an STi costs more than it would be to just trade the damn car in and buy an STi.

My take on it is you have to think about what you are capable of doing and what your plans for the future are. I think a person who is in college that can't afford an Evo let alone the insurance would be better off just turboing the Lancer, which is what I plan on doing now. By the time I can afford one, like by the time I've graduated with my 25K student loan paid off, I may not even want an Evo anymore (not likely). I plan on having that 25K paid off in 2 years, just about the same time as my Lancer should be paid off. When you're doing any type of modification to a car, you have to weigh in the pros and cons.

No, never. You may as well buy a Neon SRT-4 and save some cash and head-achs. Much nicer platform to begin with. Or a Used Evo. An OZ is an AWEFUL platform to begin with.

They can't refuse your claim, they can TRY to like all insurances companies do when faced with making a payment, but they are lagally obligated no matter what.

I HATE insurance companies.

My opinion that is defenatly not worth it. Lancer is pretty weak car, so it is not that easy to just TURBO it and still have a reliable transportation

Yeah NEON SRT-4 FTW. I mean it is an EXTREMELY more potent and potential power maker. It has the 2.4 and turbo bits you need and a HUGE After-market. If you are going to be stuck FWD you may as well do it right. Neon's are MAD cheap as well and common at Mitsubishi dealerships cuz they trade them in for Evo's

Automatic 4-bangers are just AWEFUL unless they have HUGE Turbos and slicks and have a stall converter, then they are cool. Check out the Turbo Mini-vans, they kick ***, get one of those.
