is it worth turboing a lancer
I have allstate for insurance and they have never even looked at my car or asked anything besides make and model they have no clue if I have mods nor have they ever showed any interest in the 2 years I've been with them for insurance. So if I turbo'd it I dont think it would matter because they rape me with my insurance already. Even though I haven't had any claims at all in 2 years I pay $265 a month still. I have had 5 speeding tickets but only 2 supposedly went on my record but my insurance never went up from those either...so back on topic i would turbo if i could afford it but couldnt afford an evo or the higher insurance. And I would only go for 200 hp not 300 im not trying to rebuild my whole car.
I'm insured by the government so I doubt they're doing anything illegal. A lot of insurance companies won't insure a modified vehicle, plain and simple.
I'm sorry but that info you recieved from your carrier is just wrong. We insure modified cars all the time. They are covered. Now if you say removed your breaks and then caused an accident you may have just cause there. But a car modified with a turbo and exhaust not being covered is just silly. I just insured a super charged Mustang GT and it is covered. NOW if your car is broken into and stuff is stolen, they MAY only be obligated to return it to Manufacturers spec but then again if you say get your laptop stolen out of it, the insurance SHOULD cover that as it is a loss from the break in.
It depends entirely on who your carrier is. Some of the people I know only have to tell their insurance company what they have and it's fine while others are like me, if they modify their car they give up their insurance.
Progressive actually paid for, and installed a carbon fiber hood for me when i got in an accident.
I would def agree different companies and countries will have their own particular rules.
So I'd just flat out ask the insurance company first. "will my coverage change if i modify my car"
Save a whole lot of guess work

Moneys always going to be a factor, its all a personal preference, depends how big ya want to do it. best of luck on making your decision.

Ok guys let's not add fuel to the fire by saying things like "anyone can make an evo fast". It's not hard to make a lancer fast either, it just requires a bit of research and a lot of money. Give me 10000$ and a lancer and I could make it fast, handle well, look good and have a functional interior. Acting like your re-engineering the wheel only pushes owners of evos and such to move to the ricer/naive car owner comments. If you want to mod your lancer, great, have fun doing it, but don't make yourself out to be this martyr.
