I have a 2003 Evo and my Carbon Fiber wing is coming apart on the inside. The Carbon fiber is bubbling everywhere and turning the clear coat on the whole wing white and cracked. I asked Mitsu about it and they said they couldn't do anything except replace it for a cool $1600 (Guess what? They're out of business now). I've been seeing this wing on Ebay a lot. Is this really a RalliArt wing? My spider sense tells me it isn't, can anyone vouch for the quality?

Also, any suggestions on a replacement wing?

I bet its fake with a sticker. haha. There is a guy on the evo side of things that will re-clear your wing back to new for a price. do a search and im sure you will find the thread. he does amazing work.

I took my wing to a body shop (second time now) and the guy was really nice but he said that if I refinish it, it will still bubble up agian. He says it's the manufacturing process for the carbon fiber in the 2003 wings and he's seen it in other carbon fiber. Some chemicals that they use in the manufacturing aren't handled properly and end up staying inside the carbon fiber. After time they seep through and eat away at the clear coat. This in turn makes holes that water gets into that accelerates the corrosion of the clear coat.

So there's nothing I can really do to "fix" it. He suggested that I COULD refinish it and paint it but we agreed that it defeats the purpose of having carbon fiber. Does anyone here have any suggestions for a replacement? I'm kinda hoping to keep the stock look. I'm not really in to bolting on a big aluminum wing but I love the look of the stock wing.

 

HAHAHA, i know a 12 year old who can install that wing in 15 mins and i can pay him off with candy, look around the forums buddy and u'll find ones a lot cheaper

dont know where you got those price figures from but damm those listed are waay off.... i got my evo 9 wing from a member here for 200 bones w/shipping... it is gg but im gonna repaint the pillars yellow to match my car and leave the center section unpainted.. i had to buy some misc 6mm nut/washers/bolts to attach it to the trunk cause mine were missing those.. found them all at home depot for $5

back to the price thingy... you can get them waay cheaper than those 1k prices you listed.. i seen some on ebay from a powrseller for 160$ w/shipping...

Did you even bother to read the thread? That was the whole point...was that the dealership was charging way too much. If you would have continued to read, you would have found that I bought one from a fellow member and only paid 150 shipped for it. It has been on for a couple months now.

Yeah man ^ ^ ^ That looks nice. It'll look even better when it is painted. Before you get a kit, I would definitely get some rims. Stocks + Hubs FTL!!!
