Mirage Evo Vlll swap
Mirage Evo Vlll swap
Well here it is the complete swap of a mirage to an evo vlll. So i'm new to this site so I hope I'm posting this in the right place. Well I started to build a mirage on steroids! I have a 2000 mirage and a 2006 Evo Vlll that my x wife decided to put up a tree, painfull sttuf.
The evo is in repairable so I decided to transform the mirage I'm in the middle of it now and decided to get sOme other in put, general tips and advice.
So far the evo engine, front sub frame, suspension and trans and dash bord are in this is going to be a fast project I have only 6 weeks left to finish it. I'll explain later. I'm doin this right now from my I phone and it's driving me crazy. I'll get to my computer and post some pics tonight.

iPhone ftw LOL me to and pls when you get home post those pics I would love to see your mirage and your old evo I hope that your build comes out great and for any advice don't have any but try making it look like and older evo with the viii engine that would be a twist to all other mirage/evo conversions good luck
I don't think they made an Evo VIII in 2006, but you can check out this FORUM for a lot more info. I was planning on doing the same thing but I would rather buy an Evo later. I remember reading up that the front end is easily swapped but the differential needs a lot of fabrication.
Good luck

sweet i'm subscribing also welcome to the forums.what kinda advice/info do you need on this? what kinda problems have you encountered so far? I'm sure they are guys here that can help.Good luck
The luck you're going to need is using the crappy search engine on this site and putting up with mods and Evo owners telling you to buy an Evo.
You're better off checking the other forum I posted because they have actually documented the swaps and are very helpful.

surprisingly the rear differintal is easier than you think there are only two mounts to be made up, firstly the one that holds the lower drag link arm ( from the hub to the underside of the chassi, it needs to be moved back 2 inches. the other is the top wish bone arm wher it bolts into the fender well it needs to be moved foreward 1 5/8 inches.
fuel for thought
thanks everyone for the tips and advice,
to anyone who tells me to buy an evo i already have/had one, that is until my drunk *** x wife tried to show off to her new boyfriend, and decided to park it up a tree and then beside a pole... so the evo got wrecked beyond repair, 18000 to fix it through the insurance and 15000 cash... but i have a mirage and thought it was the best of both worlds, turbo charged awd mirage with an evo Viii front clip and and interoir.
oh yeah by the way i cut the the old dash out and re shaped the evo one and now it is in the mirage looks nice....
having a small problem with the clearance with the doors but that is being recitified by cutting the evo 8 and the mirage panells and there ya go...
now with the evo 8 dash bord installed that means that i have to up grade to abs other wise the acd wont work. as i have been told by mitsubishi.... not a problem thought i have all i need. also by using the dash of the evo i can run the entir wiring harness from it to the mirage which will make my life a whole lot easier when it comes to the wiring, because if you didnt know already the evo 8 computer MUST run with a transponder key which the antenna is on the steering coloum... see where im going with this???? so in the long run it will be easier..
now as for the rest of the car yesterday i was considering if i should cut the quater pannells off the evo and weld them on to the mirage and have my body guy do his magic? this means i could put the tail lights of the evo on there too!!!!! sexy huh???
the trunk would work but that is a night-mare all by itself its wider longer and the angle to the lights is different, but again i have beeen knowen to do crazy stuff.
oh by the way the front subframe off the evo 8 is different to the mirage
1 the mirage one is 10 inches tall, the evo is 8 inches tall
2 the mirage uses two bolts in the rear control arm the evo uses one.
3 the steering rack on the mirage sits in a different position to that of the evo so you have to cut a hole in the floor to let the steering coloum through....
as for the rear control arms you need to use a heavy plate and drill holes in it where the two bolt holes are on the mirage body, and you need to make a spacer because they are at two different heights. then bolt it up using the inside bolts only, because the subframe covers the second then you need to drill out the middle hole for the control arm put a bolt in it and tighten then making sure you are aligned correctly drill right through the subframe and the out side bolt hole in the plate you just made, repeat this process on the other side and your done with the rear, as for the front holes you need to cut the 2 inches plus the with of the steel plate you used off the mirage subframe, then you can weld them to the evo subframe and then bolt everything up in place and you are good to go, well on the front suspension any way....

so today I made up the last of the brackets for the rear subframe.
Now it is not hard my any means but it is extreemly time consuming,
I have so many pic's that I want to show you all, I'm getting in it asap,
So hang in there for me and I'll post them soon.
Well I found to my dis like as spots of rust under the body, so that means
When I get the subframe and diff in properly, the car must be stripped of everything
And put on a machine to rotate It on it's side so I can sand blast under neath it.
I may have to replace a. Pannel or section, I won't know until the middle of next week.
There is so much left to do and only 20 days left..
