Well if I took it the wrong way my apologies. The way it was worded ( to me ) looked like you were trying to be a smart ***. No offense taken.
Oh yeah, led lights can be brighter thats why we use them, but the run much cooler then normal bulbs whicih in this case was what I was concerned with HEAT issues.
ANy info you'd like on the filters I'd be more than happy to share with you.

jtc- I'm gonna chime in here and save you some money on theatre gel, and possibly LEDs. I've been trying to get that **** to work for over a YEAR on my gauges. I've tried deep blues all the way down to a blue so faint it's hardly noticeable. I've tried LEDs, I've tried flat-top wide disperal LEDs, I've taken jewelry files and shaved the tops of the LEDs so they focus the light where I want it.
You know what I did last night? I put the stock bulbs back. The lighting in these cars is not really designed to be modified. And it seems that theatre gel IS too heavy to do what we want.
Unless somebody has a source for #74 halogen bulbs with t1.5 bases we'll just have to wait.
BADEVO- do you have a nighttime pic? I'm curious about how much dimmer the panel is now.
good writeup, too BTW. Same info if you want to change out your stock headunit, or change the colors of your AC faces.

BADEVO: No hard feelings? I'm sorry if I sounded like I was trying to be a smart-***, I really wasn't.
engineerboy: That's all I wanted to know. Theatre gels are made to withstand the high heat generated by spotlights, so I figured that they were pretty heavy duty, and that's why I asked about the light filtering capabilities.
However, I have had some luck with the bulbs (https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...threadid=58198), and I don't mind if the clock is a little dark.
have you tried any of the bulbs on http://********************/technical_data.html? They seem to have some focused-beam LED's for the #74?

WAIT!!!! Everybody STOP ordering the #74 LEDs. That's what I was trying to say: they will not work. See, Mitsu uses this stupid pickup and diffuser to get light moved around the instrument cluster. Like I said, I tried LEDs, I tried the Wide dispersal LEDS and tried shaving the LEDs to "aim" the light. ****, I even chrome painted the underside of the black cover to get some reflection going and it was just a big waste of time and money.
Besides, those LEDs need a mount. You'll have to find a t1.5 base (they usually come with a LED mounted) to mount your new colored LED. There's another thread about it.... I'll edit this when I find it.
Ahhhh, here we go: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...threadid=42034
I think most of the LED info is around pages 5-6

Sigh. . . scroll down the page, me thinks. Now you can take the #74 incandescent and put them in the bases that come in our instrument clusters. First you have to loosen the wires, then pull out the bulb, reverse and you're done.
That I WILL try!
Whoops. . . oh well, I've gone this far.....
Turn this thread around!! We're going to Japan now! This is a hijacking!

engineerboy, I ordered 2 incandescents for the climate control panel just for that reason, but i figure for the cigarette lighter, dimmer control, window bulb and ashtray the LED bulb would be better.
when you order the #74 bulbs from mitsu, they do come with the grey base, but i just yanked the bulb itself out of the already installed base and put the new ones in.
i hope i'm making sense...
ANYWAY... enough hijacking BADEVO's clock thread into a bulb thread.
