But you are right, the blackout housing looks so nice and it's so easy to do. They espically look good on black and grey lancers.

yea i ****ed up with the height adjustments but its all good now, i think. anyways my question is, i painted it and everything but how come it doesnt look all glossy? the left housing i sanding down pretty well and the right side i just kinda brushed over it. one is smoother than the other but as far as the glossyness (sp?) goes, how can i make it nice and shiney like the paint on me car? not that it really makes a diff. but im just wondering lol

i think that really depends on the paint you use, how many coats, wet sand in between coats, possibly even a clear coat, that kinda stuff
what type of paint did you use?
what type of paint did you use?
use a gloss paint, and the brand?
where'd you paint them and what were the conditions?
i just did mine in the sun outside in about 60 degrees, no humidity, they look like the paint on the rest of the car, you shouldnt need a clear coat.
if you painted in wind or high humidity, paint usually comes out like crap.

well ill be honest, the one i sanded down came out pretty glossy but i just kinda screwed up on it cause i was rushing it and i know this kinda project needs patience which is why im gonna redo both on sunday. heres a pic of the sanded down one. in the pic it might seem nice but in person you can see the spots i rushed through. some are more darker than others but overall it still came out better then the one that was barely sanded down.

reason why i asked about how to make it look more glossy is cause i didnt wanna take the time to sand it down like the first one and just wanted an ez way out i guess but like i said, im just gonna make sunday my headlight day and just work through both and take my time. and yes my car is f'n dirty from all those damn bugs
*edit* yes i used primer and gloss paint as well. not sure the brand of it but its from autozone. the one in the pic is actually not that bad but its just a little ruff in some spots. but im redoing the whole thing anyways

okay, im busy to read all this pages. But I just tried doing this but I have problem splitting the black plastic and the lense. I did bake it for 5 min. But it's still ******* hard.
I ended up having to bake them for 8 minutes... then loosen for a few minutes, toss back in, loosen, toss back in... that kind of thing
Also, I used a plastic knife to "cut" through the glue/silicon crap. If you have two people, one to pull apart, another to cut, it makes things MUCH easier.

i've been using the krylon fusion paint on my interior dash pieces... its about 50x better than Lowes' brand "American Family" i don't like that stuff really messes up the interior, krylon goes on thin and sticks like hell... be sure to follow the instructions tho.
what u guys think about CF over the chrome part instead of paint? i found someone who bought CF sheets off ebay, and he dont want em, so im thinkin about puttin them on there n seein how it comes out... what u guys think? i have CF eyelids, and looking for a cf grill from a vis hood or wutever........
