The perfect clearcoat?
Read what I said, your lazyman clear in the paint world is known as single stage. The Lancer does not have single stage as I mentioned before, its a two stage paint. The two stages are a base coat and a clear, once again I went to two different shops to make sure I wasnt wrong. We are definately rocking a true clear coat on our cars.
You are correct though, single stage is crap.

Look, those shops are probably assuming wrong. Im 100% sure that our paint IS in fact single stage... you know why? I had my "R" in the LANCER badge on the trunk jacked, it pulled ALL the paint off down to the bare metal. If there WAS in fact clearcoat then the paint shouldnt have come off with adhesive. It could be perhaps that certain lancers from certain factories did get a true clearcoat and some from another factory got a single stage paint job. Also my hood has a bunch of rock chips from the highway... the chips go down to the bare metal as well, and the paint as i see it isnt thick enough to me dual stage. It looks single stage. So i'm saying to my knowledge that all the lancers I have seen, including mine has single stage paint.
Shops assuming? Dude Kareem, I think your being hard headed about this. That is their job, their livelyhood. They paint cars for a living. They dont assume, they know. They even wet sanded a hidden area to make sure the car has a clear. You are free to think and feel as you want, but Im telling you the car is a two stage with a clear. Whether you believe me, shop 1, or shop 2 is your choice. And remember, a metallic paint cannot be sprayed as a single stage.
Another thing, the window sticker shows the car has a clear. People have argued with me that the sticker is wrong, well if the sticker is wrong then we ALL have free paint jobs coming as a result from false advertising on the part of Mitsu.
Understand Im not trying to start a fight here, as I feel you are one of the best Evo.M memebers. I just want to educate everyone on the issues of our paint....

Can we agree to disagree? I believe that my car has a single stage paint. I tried to use some abrasive compound followed by buffing and polishing to remove some scracth marks that was supposeddly in the clearcoat. The abrasive pad was effecting the paint from the minute it touched the car, which told me that there is no clear, it's just single stage. I dont want to start a fight either, so let's just agree to disagree.
