Bodykit from start to finish

Hey guys and gals... this thread is gonna be my writeup on how to paint a bodykit. It'll tell you from start to finish how to paint your brand new kit instead of taking it to a bodyshop to do it. Here are some pix to start...

I do

Oh and yeah Im painting the whole kit myself from primer to clearcoat.

As for Ecrs's suggestion just to clearcoat it and put it on a yellow lancer, You're outta luck cuz that yellow is like 10 shades darker than the lightning yellow

hey kareem~
what is the difference between putting on the kit onto the car and then painting, instead of doing what you are doing now? i never really understood that.....is your way easier? pro's and con's of both...?

if you paint on the car you can blend the color easier with the rest of the car so it looks like a factory job... but painting off the car is probably the easier way to get it done because you dont need to mask things off and worry about overspray.

I dont do blending

With the right paint you can make the kit look like it's factory painted. My dude gaurentees a 99.9% color match to the original car. He even inputs your VIN number into the computer to get the exact shade of the color of your car. The car can be thunder grey, but there can be like 10-20 variations of it. The VIN number tells you the exact variation of it.

I paint the kit off the car so i can pay attention to details and so i can get UNDERNEATH the kit as well. I dont have a lift, so i cant paint under the car (where the bumper bends toward the bottom. The con of painting it off the car however is... nothing! It's all pros. Painting it ON the car requires u to mask the car off to protect it from overspray and you gotta have a lift to get to the lower areas since a gravity feed paint gun wont be able to spray upsidedown. Also i can paint the kit from whatever angle i want to paint it... upsidedown, right side up, sideways, diagonal... any orientation.

My paint guy is closed over the weekend so im gonna have to wait till monday to do the paint layer. Meanwhile keep the questions coming, i want this to be a very informative thread. The only reason im doin this is so i can help spare those DIY'ers from paying thousands at the body shop for a job you can do yourself.
