Finally Lowered My Lancer!
I finally got rid of my wheel gap. First all, sorry no pics. I will take some as soon as I wash my car and its light outside. Here is a quick run down on how the installation, which I did all by self, went.
First, I used the How-To at www.mypron.com. Thanks for a great write up. Really helped. He estimated that it would take between 5-8 hours to install, so I started today at 12 noon, hoping that would be enough time. I don't have a driveway, so I had to find a vacant parking lot ( I live in an apartment complex). I found an used car lot which had gone out of business and also happened to be down the street from AutoZone ( I knew I would need some more tools).
Well, now to the installation. It all pretty much went according to the write up. Instead of jacking up the whole rear of my car, I just did each wheel individually.
First rear spring: 2 hours
Second: 45 minutes
Front two: 3 hours and fifteen minutes.
Total install time: 6 hours.
Trips to Autozone: 4
Tools needed to buy from Autozone: 24" breaker bar, 17mm deep socket, torque wrench, and I needed to rent the spring compressors and had to borrow their impact wrench to remove the front two strut nuts.
Things learned:
1) Park next to an Autozone (make sure you have all the right tools needed)
2) Turn the bolts the right way (I snapped a bolt off by accident - the one that holds the break line to the strut bar in the front left well)
3) Allow at least 7 hours of daylight (spent the last 30 minutes in front of my wife's headlights)
4) Don't do it when your sick ( I have a bad cold, but dangit, I was putting my springs on!)
5) Don't do it by yourself!
I will post pics ASAP!
As a comparison, here is what my car was like before I lowered it:
