Question.

Whats up, I own a 03 Lancer es white, auto and I was thinking of taking off my hubcaps and leaving the black steelies on and shining them up until I can get some rims. Is this a wise decision? and would you do it?

Some nice rims are a "ricer look"?

I would leave them alone until you get rims.

+1 for Bryce's idea. I would leave the hubcaps on until you get rims, in fact that's what I did when I had my lancer.

Some people prefer the looks route, nothing explicitly wrong with that. More over, rims are actually a performance modification since they reduce weight and allow you to run wider tires. That's why I got rims on my lancer, I went from 14" steelies that weighed a ton and only had 185s on them to lightweight 15s with 215s on them.

i agree with the looks route. if you want to have it look like a nicer car, by all means get them. but if you want power, id save.

No point in having power if you can't control it. Why have 200 hp if you still have crappy 14" tires? I'd much rather get the tires first, then the power than get the power and always have to worry about wheel spin, handling, braking, etc..

stock 14 or 15s with some good tires would be better then some 17s.. u dont need to worri about spinning your tires. worst that will happen is that u cherp your tires going into 2nd. woopie! tires > rims when it comes to traction sir.. so
save for performance or make it look nice. dont waste time doing both, u will more then likely regret it

Yeah don't worry lancerrally45, I'm not getting mad at you (wait, agree with me or ban!), just playing devil's advocate.
Demon__ni2, 14s are pretty useless for performance. For one, a lot of good tires don't come in a suitable size. The other obvious problem is they need a 65 series sidewall to keep the speedometer accurate which sucks for handling. 15s are the best IMO, they're light, come in wide sizes, and don't look ungodly. I'm not a fan of giant rims on a car like a lancer but some people are so that's life. If you have 200 hp in a lancer, traction becomes a major problem. Ask the guys running turbo, they have a hell of a time with wheel spin partially because the lancer doesn't come with an LSD stock.

Ricer would be anyone that doesnt go the JDM route. Lol I'm just playin. Its a term that means different things to different people. For example the rednecks at my school(about 70% of the students, ugh) will call anything that is not made in the US, doesn't have rust over at least 50% of the car, and is not a truck a ricer. In the tuner world it could mean doing things the cheap route or even going for looks over performance to some.
Honestly it depends on the person you ask. IMO ricing a car out would be going with rims that are all bling on a car that, lets just say, needs a lot of body work, or going with a muffler with a 5 inch tip(mine is only 3! still dont like it. ). Basically just un-tastefully modding a car.

Overall it comes to the fact that it is your car and do what will make you happy. There are a lot of cheap DIY projects that could help out the look of your car a TON without spending more than 20 dollars in most cases such as blacked out headlights, colored grille, painted interior, etc.

If you have any questions feel free to PM me and I will gladly help you out or point you to someone who can help.

PS: here are some links to give you an idea of what is possible with a white lancer.
