What would the write up involve,
Step 1. Buy engine
Step 2. Buy AWD system
Step 3. Take to shop and have them do 10000$ worth of custom work to your car
Step 4. Drive home knowing you spent 10000$ just so you can "go racing"

cheaper and faster to buy a used 240 or hell a V6 mustang would be better than a rwd lancer!

correct me if i am wrong, but isn't one of the big reasons a car is fwd is that the car does not have enough power to be rwd? I know it is easier to pull than to push, and pushing a 4-door with 120hp is probably not a good idea. thats assuming the engine has not been turboed

for example- I can never reverse up a very steep incline into my neighbors garage; the car just cannot do it no matter how much juice i give it. But I can, from even a stationary position, pull the car up the steep driveway headfirst

thread starter- i'm all for new things, but give us some more info. why do you need this to race? How much hp?

Mirage guys have done an all wheel drive convertion with evo parts, perhaps the mirage forums would be a good place to look for ideas

240s dont make that much power but they are rwd. and they are a lot faster than any lancer I have ever ridden in.

reverse is a different gear than first so its going to be different.

dude if you work in a fab shop and have a lot of money.... why not just "fab" urself the **** you need and get it done... if you can't find anything on here then most likely none of them done talked or know anything to do with fwd to rwd conversion...

Miatas are only like 100 hp and they're fine RWD, power isn't the issue. The big problem I can see is this car was not meant to be RWD thus the suspension is set up wrong in that regards. Hell at most we run what a 225 width tire? That's skinny for most RWD cars. Just buy a 2000$ AE86 and have a car that can actually compete.

there are only 2 ways to do this, and none are worth it at all

1. get a lancer gsr clips, use the tranny, axels, drive shaft and crap
2. get an evo clip use all of the drive train and use either a 4g63 engine or 4g64 engine

all of which will need to be sent to tre or a tranny shop to get the differential welded.

have fun

I'm guessing it'd cost more or less the same.

2. Have you seen the size and weight of a miata vs a lancer? power and torque are both an issue.

3. This has already been done by a guy in tampa to an 03 White OZ Rally Edt. What he did was got the whole drivetrain (Engine, Tranny, Axels, etc) from EVO's 03-05 and mounted it on the lancer. Now i haven't actually seen the car drive because he was still wiring in the engine and plumbing things but motor was in nicely and the AWD system was installed.(Too bad I bought a Digital Camera after I saw this so I can prove all of ya'll wrong). It can be done as long as you have the money and resources GO FOR IT.

1. Getting another car is an answer and in my opinion, is a far better one than blowing 10k$+ to make a lancer RWD.
2. Miatas are small yes, but lancers are quite light as well. A 120 hp lancer is pretty comparable to a 100 hp miata.

From: alameda, ca but missing texas
this would be tight, especially to see a lancer swing the back end around and drift
