More TOB questions.
After installing a rebuilt transmission, ACT Stage 2 clutch and pressure plate, and brand new slave cylinder/ TOB assembly, my car makes rattling noises in neutral with the clutch out. As soon as I push it in, it goes away. I'm upset to say the least.
So my questions are:
1. It is the TOB. It started 30 miles after the install. Seems a little soon for a brand new dealer part to wear out, but the Trans shifts fine and doesn't make any noise while driving.
2. Will a dealer replace just the TOB or do I have to buy the whole assembly again.
3. Could it have been improper installation by my mechanic. If so I have bone to pick with him. (He already pissed me off by running my lugs on full bore with an impact. I had to use a torch and a half inch breaker bar with a pipe on it to loosen them so I could change the brake pads.)
Sorry to have started another TOB topic but I didn't find any of these question answered in the other threads. My apologies if they were.

Sorry to have heard about your lug problems... I had that same thing happen; and when I went back to the same place to take them off, they snapped a stud! They replaced that though free!
Back to the topic, so how many miles all together have you got these "new" parts? The clutch does have a break-in period, and it just might have to be "seated" first...

it sounds like clutch chatter. mine does it as well as several other peoples also. seems to be normal though. if anything, the disk may not be properly aligned but i doubt it.
Thanks guys. I've been driving it and it continues to make noise but not as loud. I've out 150 miles on since i've installed everything and nothing bad has happened so I guess its just chatter.

Drives great! Doesn't slip at all. The Exedy Stage 1 would slip a lot under boost. The ACT grabs HARD. It is literally night and day.
Pedal pressure isn't bad at all being as we have hydraulic clutches. I did notice that the clutch engages with the pedal a little higher than before, but not by much though. All in all, I'm extremely happy with clutch.
/However. I took my car to three different shops today and they all said the TOB is shot. I am NOT happy about Mitsubishi selling such junk part. It really is too bad that there is no aftermarket TOB for the Lancer.

what makes them think the TOB is shot? because of the noise? that is a pretty common occurance. you would have all kinds of problems with the clutch engaging if the TOB was shot.
According to the techs I talked to, they have seen the same problems in many cars and the TOB is the culprit a majority of the time. I'm not totally ruling out clutch chatter as the source of the noise, but being as I'm not a professional mechanic, I trust their judgment better than my own. I am also checking the gear oil tonight to see if it is filled properly. So until I know %100 what is making the noise, I can't agree or disagree with the clutch chatter theory because it very well could be. It could also be the TOB.
One thing that would help is if I KNEW what clutch chatter sounds like. Can any one describe it?
