just kind of sounds like a loud tick that isnt too fast coming from the tranny. stops as soon as you press in the clutch pedal. wish i had something to record mine and post it up.

^For a Mirage? As the person says though, it's also for a '04 -'06...Is he right in saying that? or just the '02-'03 Lancer TOB different? BTW, I've got an auto...so I've never examined our manual trannys at all.

oh yeah...forgot the 04-06's were different from the 02-03's. then that should work for the 04-06's, but not 02-03.

I am also checking the gear oil tonight to see if it is filled properly. So until I know %100 what is making the noise, I can't agree or disagree with the clutch chatter theory because it very well could be. It could also be the TOB.

One thing that would help is if I KNEW what clutch chatter sounds like. Can any one describe it?
One thing you have to think of though which is definately my situation here in Northeast Tennessee (Yeehaw!), a lot of these mechanics have never worked on an Evo, and if they are not into imports, it is likely that they might believe the TOB is shot.

My buddy is a mechanic and he helped me install my ACT HD w/street disc about 14-15 months ago. The clutch performs great and I dont have any problems shifting. However it chatters like hell.

We decided that it is definitely the TOB because like all of you said, when you push in the clutch the noise goes away, which rules out all most all possibility of it being anything else. Now he did tell me to hit up the forums and see if the chatter is normal for this type of clutch on our cars.

Either way, some chatter does not mean it is SHOT. I do know that the TOB "noise" would get almost unbearable when it was about destroyed... so keep that in mind. I've read a lot of this subject on EvoM ever since I installed the clutch and a lot of people say it is normal. I can faintly hear mine chattering on decel as well.

Anyone on here a certified mechanic that could give us a good opinion on this?

(BTW: I'd be more than happy to record the noise that mine makes and put it on you tube so everyone can check it out)

I don't want to highjack the thread, but I have a used Slave/TOB laying around. 3000 miles on it. If anyone wants it, throw me an offer.

Ok... here is the video I made... hope this kind of helps everyone know atleast what mind sounds like.

The sound comes in much louder over the video than it does in person, but its good that you can hear it well I think.

yours sounds somewhat similar to mine but just a little off. not sure how to explain it. mine has also seemed to have gone away after about 6000 miles (unless im just use to it, lol).

p.s. - engaged is with the pedal out, disengaged is with the pedal in.

I feel retarded... yeah. Gotcha. I hate when ya make a video and have a brain fart. I had to fix my gauges and my curbed rim today.. so between that and cleaning the car I spent about 6 hours in the sun and then made this.. hah. What fun. I'm beat now... but ya get the picture.

mine does that too but not as loud. when i press the clutch it stops then when i let go and leave it in nuetral it stops but when i push into a gear it makes a little squish noise before it enters the gear. what can that be is it improper adjutment. and i have the act 3200 pound pressure plate and act street disc. i have to pump the clutch 2 times sometime to get it into 1st or reverse so does anyone know what it could be or is it normal or improper adjustment of clutch pedal? also plenty of track time and i have had the clutch in for about 3000 miles.
