TOB engagement issue

putting my new trans in and had a retaining ring/clip problem, it was bent, so the TOB was popping out. ordered the ACT designed retainer (very nice btw). going for the install once again i installed and torqued the trans in and engage the TOB only to see it barley holding on. the TOB and clutch is less than a season old. am i overlooking something? maybe some pics of TOB engaged in some of your evos might help. it just seems too far out to the point where itll pop out during a shift. any help would be great! i will not risk my new tranny. i want to get her done before STM next month

Might need to replace the tob due to the popping off rubbing off some material. Gotta put my car up on jacks tonight and measure the exhaust mounts for replacement torque solution mounts, I'll see if I can't get a clear picture through the inspection port while it's up.

Yeah I would suggest an oem replacement one if you do need to replace, I'm heading out to the garage now so I'll just do that before I forget to do it.

This is pretty tricky to do but first pick is no clutch pedal pushed

Second is clutch pedal down, kinda a crappy pic but the mono lock is at the end of the shaft on the tob about a mm or so off the body that attaches to the clutch fork

thanks for the pics, the thing that kinda confuses me is the amount of movement the TOb comes out of the lock ring before pulling the pressure plate. on mine it seems to be more than normal. im gonna give it another try tomorrow n if i dont like it/trust it im gonna order a new TOb. this will be my 4th time pulling and installing the trans lol im getting pretty damn good at it

Haha I hear you, I've done it 6 Times now, trying new clutches and replacing the trans. I just drop the subframe now, way easier. And yeah Mine is only moving like a mm or so out of the ring if that, if you've got like a qtr inch or something like that I'd just replace it rather than getting stranded on the side of the road with it popped out. Good luck.

ok so i ordered a new oem TOB, side by side i didnt see anything wrong with my exedy. no play in the bearings and no edges seem to be worn out. stumped on that. anyways, i put it in bolted on the trans, pulled the fork and pop! locked in perfect. i really dont understand how the one i had didnt work. i guess for future reff- if you are doing any work with the trans out of ur car, put a new TOB+ retaining clip in! due to those 2 little parts ive had my trans in n out over 5 times.

oh and for a little part review- the ACT TOB retaining clip is a great investment, looks good and is very strong. idk how Mitsubishi didnt think of it first
