TWM short shifter install question/help w/pics!

Ok,

so i installed the shifter. This is by far the most annoying mod ive done on this car so far and is by far the longest SS install ive ever done! it took me 2.5hours and i lost a lock washer, a washer and the two white plastic clips that the center cosole clips into....sorry had to vent, im a little annoyed!

Anyways, onto my question.
Im not sure if this is correctly instaled. The spring thing with the black rubber around the tips seemed like it was not sitting on the bolt correctly (see below).

So i shoved it over with a wrench and now it sits like this:

Is this correct?

Second, the spring thing again, from what i remember, it was touching the OEM shifter, hence why they have that black piece of rubber on the bolt threading.

see the far bolt with the black tip all the way to the right where that "spring thing" makes a shape like a "V" around it? Are those tips supposed to touch on a short shifter?

Now that it is installed, the first gear is real close, i don't have to move all the way to the left anymore, but my side to side movement while in neutral is non exsistent anymore and it doesnt really "pop" into neutral anymore, i gota almost put it there after swtiching gears. Normal or not?

Its obviously a lot stiffer to shift, which is normal , but the lack of play is what worries me and the fact that i almost have to aid the shifter into neutral. Is this normal on these cars?

thanks!

From what I remember when I used a TWM on my Mazda Protege 5, all the play was gone. From what you're describing, it sounds like everything is the way its supposed to be.

That spring definitly doesn't look normal. After installing my short shifter, the spring looked the same as it did with the stock shifter. It took me seriously half an hour before I could get mine the way it was (i have short term memory loss, i swear), but it certainly didn't look like that. Both sides should touch the bolt like it used to, you should fool around with it and see if you can get it back on correctly IMO

edit: actually, yours doesn't even look normal stock, so i dunno

i just put a short shifter in my car today and mine looked like that when it was stock... and it looks the same now that i have an authority shifter in there.

the important question is: does it shift okay? if it does don't worry about it.

I think the bolt with the spring is to tight??? and those two black things, the one on top goes under and the one under goes over, does that make sense?

You didnt get the energy bushings as well did you?

flip the spring the other way around. the left face of the spring should be on the right and the right should be facing the left. you basicallly made a wrong installation

Per evomoto's website...

This is how the spring should look -- it should be parallel not crossed like you have pictured.

The black thing is what both sides of the spring will rest on, when the shifter is moved to the right or left, the spring should rise on either side of the black -- the spring is what makes your shifter go back to its neutral position when out of gear

Hope this helps, and all credit to evo moto for the picture.
